Where you live are you required to recycle your trash?

Here in Small Town, Missouri we are not. We can either burn in a metal barrel or have the city pick up the trash. We are not required to separate glass, paper, cans etc. Just curious. Thanks.

I live in small town Canada and though it is not a requirement it does make sense. We have bins in the village for newspaper and cardboard which are easy enough to get to. Our garbage men will not pick up cardboard (like a bag of flattened boxes and such, nor will they pick up yard clippings). We have an open shack in town where people can take bottle and cans for recycle. The village picks them up, redeems the bottles and the money used to keep our brand new community hall running (much of the building cost was covered by bottle donations over the 5 years it took to plan, finance and build it).

We are not allowed to burn trash or anything for that matter without a burn permit which must be bought everytime you want to burn so many prefer the easier method of recycle.

I have a composter for all my organic materials and a lovely flower garden every year free of chemical fertilizers.

Once in the habit recycling is easy and I have very little garbage that actually makes it to the landfill.

lol recycling is all but required in South Jersey! at least in Camden County.... Glass, metal and plastic they pick up with the regular trash; paper gets picked up every other week.

for communities that use single stream recycling, there is no need to separate anything...the machines do it all!

FYI: i learned this weekend that plastic bottle caps are not recycleable! none of them! weird. but throw them in the garbage and put the bottle in recycle.

would love to know of any communities that recycle styrofoam....they say it is recycleable but i've never lived or heard of anywhere that actually does recycle it.

Nowhere in America are you required to recycle.

Most cities and suburban areas have that as an option, though.

Even if there's no recycling pickup in your area, there's probably a recycling facility.

RECYCLE anytime possible. Earth can only take so much crap: we need to re-use things.

I live in northern Illinois. Most communities in the Chicago metropolitan area have recycling programs for newspaper, tin and aluminum cans, cardboard, and most plastics. The garbage is the rest of the stuff. There are two waste pickups - one for garbage and one for the stuff in the recycling bin. Most towns have banned burning because the dense populations would create a health hazard with their smoke. Some communities allow burning of yard waste in the spring and fall. Otherwise the yard waste - leaves, grass, etc. - is a separate pickup.

Nope, were not required here in my small town in Georgia. Although we do have dumpsters that are available if someone choices to recycle.

Yes but the local council have only just started it so it'll take a bit of time to sort itself out. By the way I live in the County of Derbyshire in the United Kingdom that's why it's just started I guess.
