    20 / 9 + 21 / 9

    41 / 9

    4*(1 / 3) +8*(1 / 4)

    4 / 3 + 8 / 4

    40 / 12

    20 / 6

    10 / 3

    2*(7 / 15) + 3(11 / 15)

    14 / 15 + 33 / 15

    57 / 15

    19 / 5

    6*(9 / 10) +12 / 5

    54 / 10 +12 / 5

    27 / 5 + 12 / 5

    39 / 5

    2*(3 / 5) + 1*(11 / 20)

    6 / 5 + 11 / 20

    24 / 20 + 11 / 20

    35 / 20

    Find the lowest common denominator and convert all the fractions. 1/10 = 12/120 1/6 = 20/120 1/3 = 40/120 3/10 = 36/120 1/4 = 30/120 1/2 = 60/120 7/8 = 105/120 4/5 = 96/120 3/4 = 90/120 9/10 = 108/120 3/5 = 72/120 3/8 = 45/120

    What number is a multiple of 9, 4, 15, 10, 5, and 20 ?

20 is already a multiple of 4, 5, and 10 so forget about them.

    What number is a multiple of 9, 15, and 20 ?

    Try 9x20 = 180.

    15x12 = 180.

So convert all the fractions to xxx/180 and add them up.

What you want to do is reduce to the lowest common denominator and then add the two fractions. These can't be reduced any more. Gary
