Any suggestions for finding and maintaining balance through a very busy peroid?

Recently, my life has started to get really busy. I have alot going on, both professionally and personally. Here's a run-down:

1. The company I work for is directly related to the retail industry. The next few months are going to be very busy. I have already put in overtime the past two weeks.

2. Holidays get very busy, with family, friends, holiday parties, travel, etc.

3. I am in the process of moving. Enough said there.

I realize everyone has lots going on this time of year, but I don't want things to get out of hand. I have bipolar II, so I really need to keep an eye on my moods. Routine and rest are very important for me to keep. These two things are being disrupted. My work schedule has strayed from the normal routine and my down time hasn't been as restful as it should be. I've also been beating myself up a bit for procrastinating on the move.

Any suggestions on how I can find a balance between work, family, holidays and rest?

I'm in a very stressful job as well. I'm the head accountant of my company and headaches are the norm. On a daily basis I take mental breaks by physically leaving the building. I'll do a 15 minute walk on my morning break, 30 minutes at lunch and another 15 minute walk in the afternoon. I give my mind a break and get some exercise at the same time. I find the walking helps level out my day.

On a particularly bad stretch my brother put my six year old niece on the phone. It's amazing how quickly you are reminded of your priorities in life.

I just think it's important to have your outlets inorder to reset the clock so to speak and not let the bad things buildup to the point where it becomes unmanageable.

Time saving advice - if you're buying a b-day or wedding card and you know you're going to need more than one throughout the year, buy a dozen or so, saving yourself the other 11 trips. I'm just jotting things down as they come, sorry.

Moving party - Do you have male friends with p/up trucks? You'd be amazed what a small investment in beer and pizza can bring.

Timeout - It sounds like you need a personal day or even a half day. If it is at all possible take one. Even if your employer doesn't have a formal policy in place, your supervisor might allow it especially if they are made aware the reasons behind it. A good employer will recognize burnout or will make a reasonable accommodation for their employee. When I was working in public accounting during tax season, my firm limited Wednesday and Friday to 8-hour days. This helped out a lot.

I hope things work out for you. Take care.
