As a very strong ballroom dancer and fanatic, let me tell you that some of the best songs from "Dancing With The Stars" started out as instrumentals, but there are the great ballroom hits with singing in it. I don't know if the band from "Dancing With The Stars" had done that famous samba number "Jibaro", originally done by Electra. It is my most adored samba number.
Some famous ballroom/Latin hits were slightly modified. Most recently, "Para los rumberos", usually a very fast mambo from the soundtrack of "The Mambo Kings Sing Songs of Love", was slowed down a teeny bit, and was arranged with a little twist by band director Harold Wheeler, who conducts the dance orchestra and singers for the show.
But as a "Dancing With The Stars" fan myself, I can tell you that the biggest flop in the 2nd season of this dancesport reality show came when Master P danced the paso
doble to "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" originally by the Animals. Dancing with Edyta Slivinskaya, the song was a flop because only 10 percent of the song had a paso doble feel in it, and the rest of it has more of a "rock" sound instead of a paso sound. And Master P's paso doble was so bad that the 3 judges in the show gave Master P and Edyta a total score of 10 out of 30. (Their scores were a 4, a 4, and a 2.) If "Espana Cani" was used instead of that Animals song, Master P would have danced better in the paso.
