Tanning bed question?
I went tanning today for 8 minutes in a 10 minute bed. I am red, but don't hurt, this happened last tie when I went 7 minutes, but I thought I had waited enough, to try again.
I never burned ever before. I used to use a 20 minute bed, and go for the whole alotted time.
How long should I wait until I go back in for tanning? I want to actually get a tan, and not have to wait weeks inbetween. Also how long until I notice the tan... it seems to be taking longer this time.
Thanks,
Plus, any good tanning bed advice - let me know. Esp. if something will help me tan easier.
Ok for those of you who feel you need to inform me about the risks of tanning beds. I ALREADY KNOW!!!
And for everything else. I am not pale skinned. I have olive pigment skin, and have never burned before. So sorry to inconvience you. You don't like a persons question, don't answer it.
I'm not using a tanning lotion as of now. I used to use one a few years back, but I wasn't familar with the ones that this salon had.

Check with the tanning salon and ask for a tanning bed with a lower burn ray. Something with 0-2%. When you get a better base tan you can start using the higher level beds. The suns rays have a 17% burn ray. The most I have yet seen on a tanning bed is 5%. Also try to use a gentler tanning lotion or lower level while trying to establish your base tan. Use better tanning lotions like they sell at the salon, or John Abate makes some great producte. Don't use the stuff you can buy at a drugstore. The tanning lotions at the salon can cost more, but they they last along time.
For John Abate products I would suggets using ebay to buy them. That is where I get mine. Usually the super beds, the ones that use more time will have a lower burn ray. Be careful :) Happy tanning

First of all, I wouldn't suggest using tanning beds. I know tans are gorgeous, but keep it up and years down the road you will regret it. Wear sun block or at MINIMUM a positurizer or lotion with spf. Plus the moisturizer helps bring out your tan. I use SPF 15 on my body when I used to tan and always wear Clinique City Block Sheer with SPF 15 everyday.
That said, it may be that the salon recently changed the bulbs in the beds, which would cause more of a red color than a tan if you aren't used to it. I would suggest a stand up bed. You are only in there for 9 minutes tops, you get a nice even tan and I never once got red or burnt.
The shortest amount of time you can go between tans is 24 hours, but I would suggest at least 2 days. I know you don't want that beautiful tan to start disappearing quickly so buy a tan extender or use a lotion that has one. I can't remember the ones that do but they might have some at the salon you go to- just ask! And like I said before, moisturizing will hold that tan longer. Also, make sure not to shower within a few hours of tanning.
Most important stay safe, and dont make it a habit!

it depends on the bed. Did you go to a new tanning salon or did you use a new lotion. some tanning lotions make you red and then they give you color. when i went tanning the first time i burned a little but u should be able to go back within 2 days unless it severely burned. after that go every other day till u get tan and be patient good things come to those who wait. after you get the color u wanted go only one time a week and the 1 every two weeks to maintain and ask the person that works there for a lotion that pertects your skin as well, sounds like u may have sensitive skin. Don't tan to much because it can damage your skin and will make u look older.

Stay as far away from self-tanners as possible. I've tried them all, from L'Oreal to Jergans, Neutrogena to who knows what else. I've tried foams, gels, lotions, and sprays and none of them worked. I gave in and started going to a tanning bed. If you only want to be tan for the dance, don't worry about it. Going tanning a couple times isn't a big deal, as long as you don't go your whole life, a billion hours a day, every day of the week. The other option you have is going to a tanning salon for a spray on tan. Go closer to April when the dance is coming up. It'll be a lot more even and won't look orange/streaky.

I think you waited too long in between tans. Wait until you are no longer red, maybe a few days. Then go again for the same amount of time. If you aren't sore, you could just be red from the tanning lotion. Does it have a tingle factor to it? Those will make you red and it's OK. It will be gone the next day. Never tan two days in a row. Always skip a day. And always moisturize after tanning. I like Hempz body lotion. It is great for your skin and smells sooo yummy! After you have reached your tanning goal, go once or twice a week to retain your color. Remember to give your skin a break every so often so you don't end up looking leathery! :o)

When you tan in 10 minute bed, the pressure is higher. If you've tanned only twice in the 10 minute bed, you should stay at 7-8 minutes until you notice the tan. It won't take long, but if you continue to up your minutes in the bed, with no days in between, you'll continue to burn and eventually peel and have to start over. You should use a good bronzer to achieve the tan faster, but wait atleast a day or two inbetween tanning sessions, as your skin needs time to heal. Remember that 8 minutes in a 10minute bed equals 16 in a 20, and the bulbs are much stronger than a 20 minute bed. I hope this helps. Also, a good after-tan moisturizer is coco butter, as it will soothe the skin faster than no moisture at all.

When you go back to the salon find out if anyone who works there is Smart Tan Certified. Most Californina salons require it.
I've worked in multilple salons and have my certification.
Otherwise.... you need to wait for the pinkness/reddness to go away then when you go back in i would suggest reducing your time to 5minutes. If you want to tan rather quickly...go everyday to every other day. Do the same time twice. So go 5 minutes 2 days then never increase your time by more than 2 minutes. 1 minute increase is safer. So then go 6 minutes for 2 days .... then 7 minutes for 2 days... etc etc etc...If you ever get pink/burn again.... wait for it to go away then when you go back in reduce your time by a minute or 2.
Also pay attention to if your being put in a high intensity bed. Which it sounds like you are. This means that the bulbs are ALOT stronger than the 20min bed that your used to. So basically 20 minutes in a 20 minute bed is kinda like 5-6 minutes in a 10minute bed.

I love indoor tanning
you must have sensitive skin, so I would wait 24-48 hours in between if your turning red. I use tingle lotions but i am also very tan so i already have a base.
use a tanning lotion with aloe or cooling gel in it as well so you wont burn. sometimes they replace the bulbs and don't tell you, ask them next time
good luck

They are pushing for more safety and limited use of tanning beds in Australia because of the death of a young girl recently - 25yrs old, and when she started using a tanning bed at the age of 22 she got skin cancer. They want to ban them for people under 18 before of the dangers of them - a tan isn't the sign of a healthy person, and the more often a persons pushes themselves for a tan the more likely they are to get skin cancer - and that can lead to massive scares, amputation of limbs (depending on the position of the cancer) or death.

I use to go tanning every other day. I had a pretty good tan. My mom use to do this too. Well she got about 3 inches cut off her face because of melanoma. I don't tan anymore. Pale and healthy skin is beautiful.
