Can people in a chat room see what else you are doing?

Like if I am in a chat room and working on something else in another window, can they tell what that is (if I don't tell them)?

    No they can only see the conversation that you are engaged in.

    Yes, it's technically possible to do, but unless there is some back door in your chat client that you are not aware of, then no, generally people can only see messages you send to the chat room.

    Some chat programs may have collaboration or common whiteboard features or perhaps even shared desktop (VNC or some similar protocol) in which case anyone using those features would be able to see what's happening within the context of those features.

    No, I only think they can see your window you are using in the chatroom itself.
