Question about Photoshop?

Ok so I have been looking to buy photoshop and all the photoshop programs seem to be a bit out of my price range [[$650 and up]]... is there anywhere that I can get it for cheaper? I really want this program! I love taking pictures and can tweak it using other programs, but not the way I could if I used this program. Thanx in advance for your help!

Update:

Wow... I just cant believe how much a simple photo editing program runs... its kinda crazy to think how much you can buy with all that money...

Update 2:

Thanks for all the great advice! I am currently a college student... [not studying graphic design]] so can I still get it for the student price??

If you have an Academic Affiliation (student, teacher, staff), you can get PS CS3 for $290. The Academic Version is "exactly" the same as the regular version.

Consider Adobe Lightroom also. I have both, but since using Lightroom, I use PS very little now. It's fantastic when you have hundreds of photos to edit. PS has it's place and is great, but Lightroom is a phenomenal program and what I use most of the time now!

If this is all outside of your reach, get Photoshop Elements 6. It's very close to PS.

The photoshop elements versions of photoshop are less expensive. I think I bought photoshop elements 2 for $20 on ebay right after version 3 was released a few years ago. Elements has less features, but it probably will be enough for what you need unless you plan on doing some really serious photo editing.

I guess you don't really need the full version of Photoshop. Yes, it is expensive, but remember it is effectively a professional program and not a 'simple' program as you suggest. Photoshop Elements is far cheaper and serves amateurs needs fully. What exactly do you want to do that other programs won't let you?

I have just the thing for you! There is a freeware, open-source program that you can download and use for nothing that is roughly equivalent to Photoshop. It's called GIMP-GNU Image Editing Program. You can download it from http://gimp.org./

There are tutorials there too, or you can even buy books for GIMP. In fact if you already know Photoshop there is a special verson of GIMP called GIMPShop that has all the same menus and everything so you can use it easier.

Programs like Photoshop and GIMP are 'professional' tools. They have a million features and it take some time and effort to learn how to use all of them. But you can do amazing things with them! And the simple stuff, like adjusting brightness and contrast and 'levels', and cropping, you can do right away, and just about any picture you take can benefit from these things.

Yes, go on ebay, and find an earlier version. Make sure the seller is top notch. I got version 6 of $110, registered it. Then I upgraded to Photoshop CS for $189. So it cost less then $300.

I got a copy of Elements 5.0 (the latest version) on Amazon for 65 bucks. Not everything PS offers, but a lot of it.
