Very anxious about some symptoms (neurological?)?
Hi there, I know there aren't any doctors here, but I'm absolutely fed up with this and I don't know what to do because i'm sitting here driving myself mad thinking I have Motor Neuron or CJD or something.
Basically, I have this thing that happens at very odd occasions. My leg muscles and lower back twitch, even contract so strongly that I literally cannot walk, and if I do I think you'd call it 'spasicity' of the lower half. It only happens rather rarely though, maybe once, twice a month. The first time it happened was about 1999, after I came out of a hospital where I was put on an anti psychotic called Melleril. If I had MND or ALS I would have the symptoms al the time wouldn't I? Also, I don't have any weakness or anything like that, and if I rest for a good while, it eventually dissipates and goes away and I don't get it back for a few weeks/months. Could I have something serious? I get restless legs most nights, an am on Escitalopram for OCD and depression. Help me!
I was on anti psychotics when I was a teenager, about ten years ago, they gave them to nearly every patient in the adolescent unit (place for abused and unstable teenagers) I was in, which wasn't right but thats what they did. I personally am more bothered by a potentially life wrecking illness than some depression etc.
Hi there, thanks so very much for your answers so far. To answer your questions - it has got slightly more frequent, but not any more worse, just the same. I did have a terrible experience with anti psychotics that nearly killed me a few years back so take nothing like that now, just anti depressants that I have to take or I simply don't function as a human. I don't eat any red meat at all, could that cause any of thse problems? I don't have a completely balanced diet, so I shall try and take some more vitamins as I just want it to stop.
Interestingly, if I eat, it tends to help it and it tends to happen if I haven't eaten for a long time.
Thanks again for your helpful answers.

these medications can cause muscle spasms and twitching....otherwise...go and buy some magnesium + calcium and it could make all the difference...just a lack of this could cause nerve and muslce spasms etc

First, have you seen your doctor and been refered to a neurologist for testing? Might you need a new neurologist to start from scratch and see what they can find? It's hard to tell what the problem might be over the internet as I can't physically look at you or talk to you. Are there other symptoms too? Has it gotten worse over the years? You need to see a doctor who can help you. Also maybe try a new avenue and have a naturopathic doctor look at you. Don't give up you will get an answer if you keep looking. It does sound neurological but you can't rule out that it might be something simple, so don't start worying ok? Dig deep for some more patience, many people end up waiting a while for a propper doctor diagnosis lately. Good Luck.

I don't know what you have but it sounds like you need to see your doctor asap. I had the same thing happening to me with the back pains and my legs hurting and couldn't hardly walk. When I went to the doctor they did an MRI and found out that I had a Herniatic disc that was pinching my nerves. I was put through injection treatment and I haven't felt that pain sense then. Please go see your doctor, your legs are very important and you need to take care of them. About the pills can't say much, But I've herd that they can sometimes cause neurological problems. Take care and hope you feel better. God bless you

The anti depressants and other types of meds can cause problems. but the twitching of the leg and such could be that your low on vitamin b and iron. and lacking calcium. I would go to a doctor to have some blood work done to see what the cause is. but if you can get off this meds then try6 to they are dangerous to a degree you can't even imagine.

I have never heard of either of those drugs and I have heard of a lot of them as my best friend has been on a lot of meds for bipolar over the last few years. I would discuss this with your psychiatrist. He should be able to tell you if it could be drug related. Then see a Neurologist.

Prolly all the pills & meds you're popping are effecting your body in weird ways. "Anti-psychotics"? Cripes, sounds to me like you've got bigger problems to worry about than twitching legs.
