What does the Bible describe Heaven as?

I'm not much of a Christian (I used to go to Church), but I'm just wondering, does the Bible ever describe what Heaven is like? Or is it all up to the user's imagination? Because if the Bible doesn't describe what it is like, I've got a very depressing and unattractive ideal of what Heaven is like. In fact, it's so unattractive that I'm seriously debating on rather to go to Heaven or Hell.

Update:

Well, I mean I believe in the Lord, like I pray to him every day, but my incentive to live a good life is to go to Heaven. Now, what's troubling me, is my idea of what Heaven is like. And in my imagination, Heaven is not a place I really want to go.

The word heaven is metaphorical. Suppose you're an ant or a worm and yet somehow you live in the foundation of the Louvre in Paris. Some of the grandest art in the world is there. But can you enjoy it? Experience it? Even know of it's existence? No, you can't. Because your consciousness is too limited. Jesus referred to TWO higher places after death. The first he called PARADISE. The second he called HEAVEN. Heaven is to Paradise what Paradise is to Earth. In an ordinary state of consciousness, (this state) all we know is Earth. In the third state, we experience paradise. And in the fourth state of consciousness, we experience a state of being Jesus called Heaven. It's not clouds or fog or anything so mundane. It's LEAVING THE GALAXY! It going backwards and forwards in TIME! It's becoming EVERYONE AND ANYONE! It's having EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING!!!

Revelation Chapter 21 and 22 describe heaven and eternity.

It is so fantastic God reveals that we cannot comprehend even a portion of it. I personally believe that the Universe was made on such a grand scale, that God wants to populate it. The Bible says that time shall be no more. If time is absent, then distance and acceleration become meaningless.

We can move at the speed of thought (or prayer)

Distance becomes no problem, billions of light years disappear. Nacmonaides in the 12 th century said there were 10 dimensions inferred from the book of Genesis.

Modern particle science postulates that there are indeed 10 dimensions 4 knowable and 6 curled up in less than 10 to the minus 33 centimetres. That is without location.

Multidimensional, instantaneous travel, exploration, ever growing kingdom, New Heaven and a new earth, Heavenly Jerusalem with golden streets and precious jewels and door handles and decoration, no crying, no illness, no death, no darkness, full of love, learning, growth, Earth returned to its state of Paradise that Adam was in, No Oceans and thats what I can glean from the bible. Its much much more fantastic and wondrous than that.

The Lake of fire or the Bottomless pit (call it what you may)

is a place without God, a place where people choose to go, by their love of sin and rebellion, darkness, alone, pain, regret, missing all the attributes of God, no love, no knowledge, no mercy, no patience, no grace, no hapiness, no beauty, where death and despair reign.

God does not wish anyone to go there, they choose for themselves. Many will try to convince themselves it does not exist, but there are a few who have returned and told the story...Google it. He has a simple plan of salvation, accept His Son Jesus Christ and serve Him, and you will be saved.

Repent and follow Christ and a glorious future awaits you, that I am unable to describe adequately. If it is the place alone you seek, then you cannot achieve it. Its not like picking a holiday resort...which one has the best facilities...if thats all that will move and motivate you, then you will never see His promise. we must seek God sincerely with all our hearts, repent of our wrongdoings and accept His wonderful gift of forgiveness; and a new spirit and then wonderful things will be added. Thats why heaven is not fully described, because God does not want Resort seekers, seeking the benefits rather than the benefactor. Choose you this day who you will serve....Light or Darkness...for if you do not choose the light then in darkness you shall remain, and it will be your choice. Darkness is simply the absence of light.

And after they were judged at the Great White Throne Judgement they were thrown into outer darkness...the light was not found in them. Choose wisely it has eternal consequences. Do not listen to the naysayers who say it is a lie.....their hope is that there is no God; for if there is a God they know they are without hope. Not a Wise Choice.

    May God richly bless you

The city is filled with the brilliance of costly stones and crystal clear jasper. Heaven has 12 gates (Revelation 21:12) and 12 foundations (Revelation 21:14). The paradise of the Garden of Eden is restored: the river of the water of life flows freely and the tree of life is available once again, yielding fruit monthly with leaves that "heal the nations" (Revelation 22:1-2) However eloquent John was in his description of heaven, the reality of heaven is beyond a finite man's imagination to describe (1 Corinthians 2:9). Yet it is more real than this earth, which will pass away.

Jesus removed sin and death for those that believe in Him.

Heaven is our life just as it is now, but without sin and without death.

This is "Thy Kingdom come" and "The Kingdom of Heaven"

On the last day - we will be resurrected, and Thy Kingdom will come, and from henceforth will we live forever

John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

It is as simple as that

Many Christians stumble over words and take things always literally, in so doing, they create "mythologies" - but look for yourself in the Word of God, and see that what I say is not true, when you see through the words you will see the Truth

Take my advice - listen to what your heart says is True and don't be dissuaded by the words of men and their "interpretations". My friend from another q. said it so well - in his own words:

He know's our heart's desires, He is the vine we the branches He will guide yoour vessel if you ask Him It say;s after he had resurected that what ever YOu need You must ask and I will be able to hear You from Heaven

What a gentleness. How precious is our Lord

Mr. Reg thinks Heaven revealed in the book of revelation is not like reading the script for a play (what do people do there) but is grasped by advanced symbolism, what that means, gates made of a single pearl, what the various jewels signify.

If you are seriously debating between heaven or hell, than your interpretation of heaven is not true.

Us here we don't really know what heaven will hold, or what hell will hold. However something that I am sure of is that Hell will be total isolation, you choose to reject God, he gives you what you want. Heaven you will be with God, and those that chose to be with him. It will be true life.

Why would you want to go to Hell? Hell is eternal suffering. Hell isn't parties and hanging out with your friends. Hell sucks. That's like trying to decide if you would rather have a pizza party or have your limbs sawed off with a rusty saw...

Read Genesis 1, then read Luke 10. You'll figure out where heaven is. Then, if you will give up the things in this world, you'll SEE where heaven is.

not in novel form. Jesus talks alittle about it. the apostle Paul has sprinkled it through his epistles. and John of the revelation writes of it.

there have also been contemporary believers who've died, and come back, or some who have been taken up to heaven, then wrote books on their experiences.

    read up on it.
