    realy it is "laugh(ing) out loud" when you see it in a email

    It depends on how other people mean it and what context it is in.

    I see it as meaning "Laugh out loud" but others say it means "Lots of love".

    So, if someone says "Omg, my rabbit just dribbled. LOL!"

    Then, obviously it means laugh out loud.

    And if it's something like "Okay, speak to you soon. Lol xxx"

    Then it has to mean lots of love.
