My newly adopted dog will not eat dog food!!?

I just adopted a dog and he refuses to eat his dog food. He got a bout of pancreatitus and he was really dehydrated. All he wants to eat is chicken soup with rice. The vet said this is ok. However, does anyone know of a soft dog food (he won't eat solid dog food obviously) that is good for dogs who are prone to digestive problems?

    have a look at

that's the best dog food you can buy for money. I don't know one single dog who don't like it. Try to get a free sample and let you r dog decide.

probably (s)he is not happy with the choice of dry food. You say he likes chicken soup w/ rice. With his dog food as some of that chicken soup w/ rice. Slowly as time goes on remove the specialty and he probably won't tell the difference. And proabably you have a measure of how much you give him at a time. Let's say you give him 2 cups at once. To cut it down let him eat 1 cup then when he is finished give him the 2nd cup. Try not to stick to wet food for after so much it could cause weight problems and/or bad health.

I hope that helps and just keep trying!

    Good Luck : )

Ask the shelter or where you got it from if it had any special food it needs to eat. if it does you should go and buy some of that and see if that helps. If not you should try other food brands.

But with my dog i sometimes add a little milk or water.

Why should he eat tinned horse meat in gravy??? Not very appetising is it ha ha ha. My dogs won't eat dog food either and yet they are all in the best of health, never have to go to the vets except for their innoculations if i'm going away and have shiny coats and clear eyes!!! My secret? I give them what THEY want to eat, not what the doggy experts say they should eat! Some misguided people think that its ok to give your dogs a dry meal twice a day and thats all - bullshit! Dogs are carnivorous animals and NEED meat in their diet everyday, not some dry old biscuits mixed with water - yuk! In the wild, dogs such as wolves and dingo's don't travel for days and days on the scent of a bloody biscuit! They will hunt meat and only meat so you should feed your dog any meat that it fancies, with some biscuits as a treat or a mixer! Dogs should NEVER be offered pork, it upsets their stomachs and gives them the runs. Give him chopped up roast or boiled chicken ( never, ever give him bones of any description! ) with rice, chopped lamb or beef with rice or the meat in a home made gravy mixed with small mixer biscuits. Veg is great for dogs, brilliant for their digestive systems. I give mine raw carrots and raw broccoli and they really love boiled sprouts ( although my windows have to stay open when they do ha ha ha ). I also give mine polo mints, the spearmint ones as the mint is good for their stomachs too. Never, ever give your dog chocolate, its poisonous for them but by all means give him a sweet now and then, such as the polo's. I've fed all my dogs in this way and they all live to a ripe old age, my childhood dog passed away when she was over twenty!!! Good luck.

You could try soaking his dry kibble in hot water until it is soft, there are many easy on the digestion types out there. You can also use low sodium chicken broth mixed with hot water to soak the food or mix some canned dog food with the hot water. Pancreatitus is usually from eating too much junk food or high fat food. What was the shelter/rescue feeding him?

Have you tried to put soup over the dry food? Perhaps the dog will find interest in it. My pug was giving me the same trouble until started putting some chicken over the dry food and she eats like a champ now. Bella was also adotped.
