Before you do ANYTHING else, be sure the gas is turned on to your furnace! It could be as simple as that.

If that's not it, your thermocoupler may be shot. The intial heat keeps it open; it's a safety mechanism so that when the heat goes off, the gas stops, just in case it gets blown out. That being said, you might be able to replace it, IF that's the problem. If in doubt, however, call a qualified repairman.

the electric ignitor glows but i have no heat flames in my furnace. minutes later the fan turns on blowing cold air. what am i looking at for repair options if this isnt something i can fix on my own?

if the pilot is on with no main gas it sounds like its the thermocouple at the pilot. if it isn't hot enough it will not allow the main gas valve to open. sometimes the thermocouple will get covered with the white powder residue from the gas burning on it and insulates the thermo against the heat of the pilot. Clean off the thermo with steel wool or fine sandpaper. also clean the pilot burner, it too gets clogged with the powder residue and will not be a big enough flame to heat the thermo. check and make sure the pilot is burning right on the thermo. if these look good its probably a bad thermo. Theres usually one small bolt and nut that holds it on the pilot light bracket. they usually just plug into the gas valve, take it with you to the furnace parts store, they are interchangeable with other models. they'll fix you up.

Often at start up in the fall the gas valve will stick shut from sitting, wait for igniter to start glowing use the HANDEL of a hammer and rap that gas valve wake it up ,time to get back to work. if it still does not work,shut off power (light switch on side of furnace) clean shiny metal mirror next to igniter, there is a safety that senses the igniter is working before allowing main gas valve to open

It appears some dummies out there don't know that a furnace with an "Electric ignitor" does NOT have a pilot light. The ignitor glows which lights the gas...not a pilot light. Chances are your gas valve has been closed to the furnace..check that first. If that's not it....you may have a bad circuit board in your furnace. Best to get a Pro look at it.

extex is right. Thermocouple - morons shouldn't answer these questions. You have a gas flow problem. Which means no gas, gas valve not working, or the control board is not working. Once the ignitor glows do you here a clicking sound from the gas valve? If so then it is not your control board. Either it is a stuck valve or a bad valve. Replace it both ways.

Pilot light lit??? gas valve stuck? try igniting it with a long candle lighter....if no flame, then somethin wrong in gas flow......good luck
