do dog rescuers - who harass kids for their dogs having puppies -continue to have children rather than adopt?

one question from an 11 yr old stated she would be getting her dog spayed but in the meantime needed advice w/ her dog having puppies in 2 wks. she received diatribes from dog rescuers berating her for letting her purebred dog who lives outside have puppies....i am a dog rescuer myself from time to time -- however, i wonder if these mean comments come from people who continue to have their own children rather than adopt....are these mean people consistent or do they just want to lash out at anyone -- even an 11 yr old???

obviously, .i did not care for the tone or mean comments addressed to the child who requested advice & assistance. i am not pro backyard breeders.....

Update:

My dog has 2 weeks till she gives birth. How should I prepare for this?

Update 2:

this is the link to the question i'm referring to....so you can see what i mean......http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlutF...

Update 3:

plenty of kids out there for adoption...whatare you talking about?????? be consistent....& yes, i misread she's 14 -- so what????!!!

Update 4:

well, she stated her dog was to be spayed in the near future, & the dog is already having puppies in 2 wks -- so what good is it to take the tone w/ her that she is an irresponsible person?

Update 5:

i'm amazed that so many of you don't realize the plight of so many kids in other parts of the world......who would've guessed....kids starve all over the world, barely survive in subhuman orphanages, are harmed & maimed during wartimes.... maybe YOU have the choice of when & where to raise YOUR kids....many do not...

Update 6:

jean = troll

Update 7:

1/ i am not a backyard breeder...the orginal person's question was asked by another person

2/ i have adopted 2 kids so don't attack ME!!!! have you been to countries where kids live in garbage dumps???? if so, then possibly you can address MY question.....if not.....this is poor child awareness day here....

Update 8:

anyway, this is the thing.....pls read the question & follow the link before you respond so you can address the original issue.....many of you are getting way too defensive to be clear in your opinions.....

I'm ashamed that people have to react like they do to questions about animals and children. One remark about children being taken into the woods and buried needs to wake up and look at the side of a milk carton, or 365 of them this year. Eating meat, I have no idea what or how that applies to this, but yes there are people that eat meat, and there are people that don't. Does that make it alright to belittle a 14 year old asking a question? People were wrong if they want to admit it or not!!

How many children/babies do you know that are put into a box and thrown into a river to drown?

How many children/babies are put into plastic sacks and dumped in the remoteness so they starve or won't be found?

How many children/babies are put down simply because there is no home for them?

Are you getting the picture yet? I'm sure many were not intending to be mean toward a 11 year old kid but there is simply no reason to keep bringing puppies/kittens into this world when the majority will not find a good home, and even if they are found a good home some still face the risk of being dumped when older due to the novelty factor of having a pet wears off.

Unfortunately it was the child that placed the question on yahoo - perhaps some scanned the question and didn't realise how old the person was asking the question.

i hope the child was okay after being verbally abused, but i have to ask: did they know she was 11-yrs old? (i didn't see the question so wasn't sure if it was evident or not to the casual observer.) there are many abusive people here, i don't think i'd be very comfortable with my 11-yr old here when people like that exist. some even if they knew she was a child, would still act this way - the bad apples ruin it for all.

as for the sentiment about adopting vs. having kids - it is a little different between humans & animals. we don't euthanize millions of children every year simply because of lack of homes and we don't have multiples each time we breed every year and we don't sell them for profit after abusing the parents and so on - it really is like comparing apples & oranges.

EDIT: after having seen the question & answers, i have to say i agree with those further up - the post wasn't THAT harsh, it was meant to open her eyes and open a line of communication between her and her parents about their dog's care. at 14 she is old enough to start learning what action/consquence means and just how important it is to spay pets. (at 14, i was volunteering with animals and heading fundraisers to build funds for community programs.) sheesh.

as for any understanding of the plight children face, we had a foster home for over 15 yrs, taking in about 150 children in that time, many of them abused in one way or another. so yes, i am fully aware of what children face, most likely better than you are, and i have done what i can about it. there is a reason most of the bad things make it into the papers or on milk cartons - it is the exception, not the rule. whereas with animals, it seems to be the other way around - finding a good owner is the exception and not the rule. and having been a shelter mgr for several yrs, i am doing what i can to help that sector of the world too. what have you done beside sit here and rant?

well comparing the two is irrelevant since humans have the ability and resources to prevent unwanted pregnancies...and animals do not.

However...being a jerk to an 11 yr old is not exactly the way to get your point across either. as the saying goes, You get more bees w/honey than w/vinegar.

screaming or belittling someone about something is NOT the way to get that person to see your point of view at all. so being rude to an 11 yr old doesn't teach that child about responsible pet ownership at all...and only serves to make that child possibly recent rescue workers in the future.

    basically...some ppl are *******.

Well, you and the other girl should volunteer at a rescue organization for 6 months each so you understand why people get so upset with all these people whose dogs are breeding cause the owners didn't think about the consequences of leaving the dog intact.

If you don't do that, at least watch the SPCA programs on Animal Planet. It makes me understand why they get upset just to watch the results of overbreeding allowed in cats and dogs, and other animals as well. The children and grandchildren of your dogs may well suffer.

What the diatribes left out that you don't think about is the result of allowing your dog to breed. And your response is as lacking in understanding as their diatribes!

A human being cannot breed twice a year like a dog can and will because a dog doesn't have sex for enjoyment, but ONLY to have puppies. A human can produce one baby a year! In a lifetime there are few humans who produce more than 8 to 10 babies total.

In a dog's world, they breed every time they go into heat. A b**** will work hard to find someone to breed with when in heat. So it's common for a dog to produce anywhere from 14 to 24 pups PER YEAR! which is already many more than most humans do! Then there's the matter of how many pups a dog who's allowed to breed every time she goes into heat can produce, and the number ranges anywhere from 140 to 360 pups per female dog! Now if you think that it's fair to compare the potential for producing 140 to 360 babies per lifetime with a human who only produces up to about 10 per lifetime, then you're delusional!

I agree with you that the rescue people should have been more courteous, but having seen what careless breeding results in, I understand their distress much better. But you're response is as bad as their diatribe.

You stated that you are not pro backyard breeder... but if you are here at Yahoo Answers asking how to prepare for your dog giving birth in 2 weeks, then YOU are a backyard breeder.

If you were NOT a backyard breeder you'd have already researched heavily at sites that are easy to find via google search and you wouldn't need to ask this question here SO LATE... SO CLOSE to delivery time. You'd be asking in a Yahoo Breed group that matches your dog's breed. You'd have a mentor already set up who's experienced and willing to be there in person to help you.

I have a friend in one of my groups who's just whelped her first set of pups. She started with 9 and now down to 5 because she didn't know about the problems that can occur post-delivery. So 4 pups died because she didn't read and learn ahead what problems she could have and these were healthy newborns of a healthy mother dog.

My wife is a case worker for child protective services, does that answer your question??

I do however agree that children need to be taught, not berated. The hard part on here is telling when it is a child asking. BTW an 11 year old is not suppose to be using Q&A , there is a 13 year old age requirement.

I agree it is not the 11 yr olds fault that her dog was bred. She can't make decisions like that but since her parents are not teaching her any values maybe she will learn something through the comments. I do not agree that she should be bullied... But she is old enough to think and maybe needs some guidance as to what is right and what is wrong?

While I agree with you that bashing an eleven year-old serves no purpose, I hardly see the connection between having a dog spayed and adopting children. People who have their own children tend to raise them themselves, not give them away or sell them. I do however, intend to adopt rather than have my own children.

    Take care.

P.S.- I read the question you're referring to, and she's not eleven, she's 14. Furthermore, there was only one person "berating" her and it wasn't even that harsh. I think you're overreacting.

P.P.S.- What makes you think any of us is unaware or don't care about the plight of children all over the world? I have volunteered at food banks and Head Start programs, as well as donated to Christian Children's Fund and the S.P.C.A. for years. Please don't tell me what I know about or care about. If you want someone to give you a "You're absolutely right! How could they do that?" There it is. Almost everyone agreed that bashing an eleven year-old is wrong. What other validation are you looking for?

*William C- Enjoy your ten points. You're the only one who gave her what she wanted.

first and foremost i wouldnt allow my 11 year old on this board or anything else related to yahoo or any other website, you cannot trust people online to behave like they have any sense, and i feel it is my responsibility to keep my daughter from that. people that are supposedly adults on here are more often very immature ranting lunatics from what ive seen, i ignore alot of them myself because i dont want to hear/see them let alone subjecting my child to that. people should monitor their kids net usage more closely. my daughter has a computer but it sits next to mine and is locked up tight so she can only get on certain websites that i have already checked out and approved. and this ISNT one of them.

Quit whining, and do us all a favor and stop signing into other accounts to try and defend yourself, as I think we all know you are that "11 year old girl".

No one yelled at you, I see nothing wrong with any of those answers. As someone else has said, your overreacting.

edit, Im sorry you didnt like what I had to say dear, but that doesnt make me a troll. The truth isnt always nice.

You love animals, but do you eat meat? That is as bad of a comparison as you just gave. Animals are NOT people. Period.
