Either... it depends on the context.
A man may remember the love of a wife he lost too soon.
Or a woman may rejoice in the love shared from her husband returning home from Iraq.
Both are wonderful when it's true and pure.

Love at the present is terrific but as a memory it is extra special. It takes on an unblemished tone.In memory the loves were perfect.I am not referring simply to the sexual aspects but the relationship in its entirety which never receives closure.Even just the sexual encounters were special.Did you ever experience bad sex that you can think of?Do you ever dwell on the unpleasant aspects of a relationship?Unless it was doomed from the beginning, why would you focus on the unpleasant times and/or events you had with your significant other?I know the line between love and hate is blurred or even imaginary but you must be a fairly miserable person if you cannot recall the good times easier.

If it inhibits you, as a long forgotten memory.
If it is real love that is progressive and giving, at present.
