It can be caused by several things. One is not enough airflow over the evaporator. Another is low refrigerant level due to a leak. You can narrow it down and possibly fix it yourself. Check out the air conditioner page at www.hvac-for-beginners.com. You will find a step by step troubleshooting guide.

In a perfectly good air conditioner you can lay a piece of cardboard over the coils and this same effect will take place. The cleaner the coils the better the performance of the machine. Also the amount of freon in the system will effect the icing on the coil, This time of the year in the fall when the temp plunges late at night but is still seasonably warm during the day, your A-coil will freeze up. Making sure the unit is clean, the air filter is new, and the thermostat is not turned down too low will stop the freezing.

Your system is probably low on freon, causing the A-coil to freeze up. If that's the case then you have a freon leak somewhere.Run just the blower fan and let it thaw out. Call a repairman. Good luck!

It has a off cycle defrost which potential the unit has to tutor off long sufficient to soften the coils. Your settings are to low convey them as much as approximately seventy 5 ranges and whilst this is stable you could decrease to 70 ranges yet no decrease. leave the fan basically and thaw the coils thoroughly off.

Low on freon. It's a condenser, not a generator.
