HOW do I create an image in photoshop with a TRANSPARENT background???

I'm at my wit's end. I cannot get a black and white logo with a transparent background (for web use). It's impossible. I've been trying for 2 days. Can someone do this?

Update:

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. What I mean to say was that I cannot create a transparent logo from one that already has a white backgound. I need to "delete" the background and make it transparent. I already have the logo with white background but it looks stupid on my web page design. I've used the magic wand tool to select the logo part but when I copy it, the background comes with it - white! This is what I need to do. Sorry, it was 1 a.m. when I wrote the last question. I hope someone can help me.

Transparency saves correctly with psd, bmp, or gif formats. If you save the logo as a gif (make sure you select the transparency option). There's also an "Export Transparent Image" wizard you can use that's located in the "Help" menu.

just choose transparent background when you create a new image, down at contents. It should turn out as a grey and white checkered background, but will be transparent when displayed.

GIF format photographs are limited to a particular variety of hues [256 max] and the transparency characteristic of the image is definitely in hassle-free terms a single particular shade it is masked out by employing this technique viewing it, in any different case in many circumstances used as a Matte shade. while changing a GIF from one shade variety to a distinctive, IE from Index shade to RGB case in point, you wreck the winning shade table [in GIF and Bitmap photographs its a itemizing of the colors interior the record] and its very almost impossible to get it back till you have an incredibly flat photograph. in case you attempt to save it out returned as a GIF this technique will attempt to apply your structures default shade profile [often Win or Mac] which infrequently suits up with custom profiles for photographs. that's conceivable to rigidity hues for use yet often RGB mode changes adequate records which you have severely altered the image. in simple terms placed in case you choose to maintain the top hues changing the colour variety wont help. in case you regulate to RGB you will possibly have get right of entry to to layers yet you finally wreck the unique photograph. if all you choose to do is take away the transparency then you certainly can edit the colour table [Photoshop CS2] by employing going to photograph>Mode>shade table and changing the linked fee of the Matte shade. GIFs don’t care in case you repeat a shade fee, like employing white two times yet you would be removing a distinctive shade.
