  • Anyone else definitely not want kids - ever?

When I've said I don't want kids I get a combination of these reactions:

    - you'll change your mind some day

    - what's wrong with you / you're not normal

    - what if your husband wants them

    - you'd better hurry, your clock is ticking, hurry up

    - but that's what women are for

    - you think you're better than women who have kids

    - you were a kid once

    - that's what marriage is for / why did you get married then?

I'm a happily married woman to a man who also doesn't want kids. The idea of being openly defiant to this social pressure seems to throw people (especially churchies) off their rockers. Especially since judging someone would require some knoweldge of that person. I can't believe the hostility I've received. Can anyone explain it in logical terms?

  • How long does it usually take to train a man?

Married for 5 years now and my "husband/child" still doesn't pick up after himself, do any housework, make supper/lunch/dinner/breakfast/anything, care for the state of our home or its level of sanitation. How long did it take you to train yours - if ever?

  • 1994 Buick Century Custom Transmission Trouble - any ideas?

We purchased this car in the winter and it takes quite some time, upon startup, for it to be "ready" to go. We have had the transmission filter changed and there don't seem to be any leaks. What on earth can be causing this? Is it a matter of fluid level? Yes, it's an old car. Should I just be happy it's running at all? Can I do anything to remedy this?

  • What keeps you from investing in obedience lessons?

I'm curious why people who cannot control their dogs don't take them to obedience classes? This is a question just for people who have NOT taken obedience lessons. I'd like to know what keeps you from trying obedience.

  • Is chocolate milk really made from sub-grade white milk?

I've heard that chocolate milk is acutally made from cast-off, run-off or spilled white milk from milk factories. Is this true?

  • Long term users of Depo-Provera: Wish to hear your experiences?

I've been using this medication for 5 years now to manage the pain of endometriosis. Has anybody else out there been using this drug for a long time? Has it remained effective?

I'm interested in long term users for whom the medication was useful.

    - I already know and have heard everyone's horror story.

    - I don't want kids so am not concerned with my fertility.

    - I know the side-effects and experience them.

    - It's a time-release drug and is not a shock to the system as some believe. It's not equivalent to taking three months' worth of pills at once. It's released slowly over time.

  • Why does the U.S. have such a lousy view of Canadians?

Is it arrogance, ignornace, hatred, rabid patriotism? It amazes me how U.S. citizens often (not always) talk down to Canadians. Why is this?

  • To other endometriosis sufferers taking Depo Provera...?

How long have you been taking Depo Provera to help with endo symptoms? Has it remained helpful or did it "poop out" after a period of time? Has it ceased your menses? Has it helped with pain control? Are you concerned with osteoporosis, cancer, weight gain, age, weird side-effects, hair growth?

Personally, I have been taking depo for 5 years now and it's been a god-send for ceasing my excruciating periods. I just found out that I have mild osteopenia (mild bone loss) due to it. My blood pressure has been a bit wonky and now I need a pill for that. I haven't had any significant weight gain (phew!) but my sex drive went into the dumps. I get more hairs on my chin now and pluck the nasty guitar strings out regularly. I know it could be far worse than it is now. I do count my blessings that I found SOMETHING that helped. It's changed my life - certainly for the better as I can now live relatively pain-free.

I'm interested to hear others' experiences with this med.

  • Have you ever had a pet (dog or cat) that had babies?

Has your pet dog or cat ever had babies? What happened to the little ones? Where did they go? How did mom cope with the litter and what happened to her after they were gone?

  • Does higher education automatically translate to greater intelligence?

I don't necessarily think "higher" education indicates greater intelligence. Some people swear by it. I've got a chemical engineering technician diploma from a three year college program. It was all I could afford as a student on loans. I did well in my classes (some better than others) but I don't think it imparted to me any special intelligence. University degree people generally look down upon my education but usually cannot perform basic chemical functions that I can do with my eyes closed. Anyone else experience this phenomenon?

  • Is there anyone else out there that DOESN'T want children?

My husband and I have agreed to never have children. Has anybody else made this decision? Have you also experienced hostility from people? What types of reactions to you get? What do your parents, friends, co-workers, etc. say? Have you had to hide your decision to keep the peace?

  • Why can't people spell correctly and form sentences anymore?

Since the advent of internet discussions and chats, it seems that society's ability to correctly use the English language has become a thing of the past. Are schools still teaching English? Do students have language barriers? Are they lazy? Don't parents care that their child's ability to communicate directly affects their earning potential in the future?

I'm Canadian and am very proud that we give women ownership on their bodies. It sickens me to see Bush chipping away at already weakened legal abortion law.
