1994 Buick Century Custom Transmission Trouble - any ideas?

We purchased this car in the winter and it takes quite some time, upon startup, for it to be "ready" to go. We have had the transmission filter changed and there don't seem to be any leaks. What on earth can be causing this? Is it a matter of fluid level? Yes, it's an old car. Should I just be happy it's running at all? Can I do anything to remedy this?

Sounds like you are going to need a transmission if the fluid level is at the proper level, also failed to say how many miles are on the car, if the fluid smells burnt for sure,if it is an overdrive I'm sorry

Seals in the transmission are bad. Sell the car is my advice, or get a rebuilt trans. A used car, unless you know the car is trouble.

So you changed the filter and fluid and it still takes time to get going, sounds like the hydrolic pump is weak, and/or the pressure regulator is bad. I wouul take it to the shop and have it checked.....

i was going to say the filter, but you said you changed that,so it could be the front pump is weak,or its not completely full of tranny oil.take your car for a drive and come back and park on a level surface and check the fluid.if its low, fill it until its on the full mark.
