Have you ever had a pet (dog or cat) that had babies?

i bought a cat that had kittens , so cute they were , anyway we gave them to the nieghbors 2 years later

I have had cats that had kittens, dogs that had puppies,fish,and hamsters. Most my cats are barn cats but when the moms are going to have the kittens we bring them in. so the kittens are raised to like people most the kittens then get homes but some go back to being barn cats.We don't let this happen to often so we don't get over ran with cats.My dog had pups this past summer. We had a Rottweiler we were trying to breed but wouldn't take.Well the first stray dog in 3 years happens in our yard during what was to be her last heat got her.We had 4 of the cutest puppies she was a great mom. We had the pups till they were 10 weeks so when they went to there new homes she was happy to have her room back.

I rescued and fostered a cat that was pregnant. She had a difficult time after giving birth and we had to take her to the emergency vet. She and the kittens were fine and healthy. Her and two of her kittens were adopted out to great homes through the shelter i volunteer with. the other two were kept by my boyfriends mom and are doing great. Pregancy is a VERY stressul thing to go through for both animal and caregiver.

At our shelter we sort of specialize in rescuing pregnant dogs, seeing them through their pregnancies, and then finding homes for all the pups and their moms.

Some of the mamas get attached to one or two of their puppies and don't want to be separated from them, and when we have "bonded" pairs like this, we try to get them adopted out together.

We had one puppy who didn't want to leave his mother and would hide whenever people came to the shelter to look at him because he didn't want to be adopted.

Most of the time though, the mothers and babies have a relatively easy separation and go on to their own adoptive homes without incident. Dogs are remarkably resilient.

Our Akita had pups about a year ago.

All six went to good homes, and we gave tehm all away for free so that we could control who was getting them. Two our neighbor adopted, one was for her 25 year old daughter who'd recently lost a dog to old age.

Another was to my brother, and one to his girl friends parents. The other two went to friends of my parents.

Chyna, the mother, was never really a protective or involved parent. She taught her own pups to go outside to use the bathroom, and she weaned them rather early. We had to suppliment the pups for two weeks before they could continue with just solid foods. However, she wasn't too interested in the pups. She acted like they were a chore.

She adjusted well to their absence. However, she also has a neutered male Boxer friend to keep her entertained.

Yes, I raise chihuahuas. It is hard to see my babies go. They each take a piece of my heart with them. It is my responsibility to make sure they all go to good homes. I do my best to make sure they do. I have the best mothers. They all do their job well. The mom is sad for a day or 2 after the babies leave but they get over it. I actually see tears in the mamas' eyes. Sometimes they will look for their babies.

my 9 month old german sheppard/ chow mix got pregnant with this really really old dog after a summer in the country. We didn't know she was pregnant until one morning she was in the cage with a little one. THe puppy lasted 8 days before she got extremely jealous and stopped feeding and keeping him warm. Soo little puppy is no longer.

I had 2 litter last year and mom was ready by 6 weeks for them to go. she had 2 large litters and they got on her nerves. by they time she would finish nursing all of them, it would be time to start again. It drove me crazy too. They were in my bedroom and cried all night. Domino ( the mom) would push the door open and sleep in the living room to get away from them. She only took to one pup and i kept her till she was 7 months old. They day she was "adopted" by one of my mom friends, mom went crazy trying to dig out of the yard. Even now months later, I can ask her " wheres your Cammie?" and she goes crazy looking for her.

Our pups went slow, we gave them to good homes, and it was close to 4 months when they were all gone, but our german sheperd didnt seem to be to upset when they were gone, but its a good idea to give your dog lots of attention and love when they are leaving or have already gone..
