Whenever you try and play a video and you get black screen with message saying something like "this video can only be played using (player name here), w3player, domplayer, etc.) that is completely free", it is bad. Not the video, it's just coded in a special code so it will only play in that player, which is really a virus. While you download it and open it, It comes attached with viruses (usely a trojan virus). You need to find something to decode it. Like for w3player, download w3f**ker.zip. Sorry, that's what it's called. I've tryed it and it works and found no viruses so, w3f**ker.zip is good.
Source(s): W3player = bad W3f**ker.zip = good (you can watch the video like the rest of the videos) - 1 decade ago
I did some research - it is a malware. It was first seen on August 27th or 29th ( not sure ) and it is not classified yet in catalagos and definitions. It may seem that it is a software, because all of the sites where you can get a "software" for free and etc, so it seems like it is legit. I have an annoing thought that this malware is the first step in the undercover defence programm targeted against P2P illegal downloads and it is payed by TV companies... well it is my thinking.
Hope it helped.
P.S. use only torrents from ppl who you dealt before with ( like EZTV or aXXo and etc... )

I'm certain that nothing good will come out of downloading it. I had an .avi which only stated I need domplayer to view it when I opened it in WMP. I don't think the video would work even if I downloaded domplayer and there's not much to gain in trying. Like the previous poster said, it's probably packed with trojans.
Any video file that can't be viewed in VLC or Media player classic with a good codec pack is most likely a fake. With those two players installed you can even watch quicktime and real player format.

Don't use it.
I'm not 100% sure if it's malware or not, but my gut-feeling is 'yes'.
It doesn't actually matter. If people are demanding you use a proprietary player, you can guarantee that at some point, you will pay - either in money, or as a result of filling your computer with trojans.
Honest torrents will not ask you to use proprietary formats. If they do, delete them, and chalk it up to experience.
