I want to move to Mexico?

I am getting tired of the states and want to move to Mexico. Why not move to a place where people vacation. Does anyone have any suggestions on great places to live and buy in Mexico? What about the economy? I want to move within the next 2 years.

Update:

I am bilingual, I have my own business and may just expand it to mexico. I will live in a resort area

There is a reason so many of them want to come here hun. The economy stinks, simple as that. If you have a skill that is in demand I have no doubt that you could make a lucritive career there, but you must be in demand.

People vacation there because they have money to spend. But actually living and residing there is a bit more difficult. You have to land a job that pays well enough to afford your lifestyle. I know people with bare dirt floors still, it's unreal.

Good luck, and I hope you find what it is you are looking for.

Have you ever visited Mexico?Do you understand that all of Mexico is not like the vacation resorts? If you wish to live in a vacation area, it will be very expensive. If you are wealthy and have a steady, provable, monthly income, you could qualify for an FM3 visa to live in Mexico. if you will need to work in Mexico, you will have to get a work visa. These are nearly impossible to get . You must find an employer first, who will write a letter stating he is offering you a job that he cannot find a Mexican national to fill. Usually, this means you must have an advanced degree and skills in a job area needed in Mexico. Even professional jobs pay a fraction of what they pay in the states. Most Americans in Mexico are either wealthy, or retired , or both. You can come on a tourist card for up to 180 days, but you cannot work while here as a tourist. What I am telling you is, a young person will find it nearly impossible to move to Mexico and work and make enough to survive. You say you are ¨tired¨of the United States: The U.S. is a huge country, and econoimically far, far better off than Mexico. If you feel you need a change in your life, try a totally diferent envivonment in the states, go back to school, furthur your education, change professions, and plan ahead for the day when you may be able to travel in Mexico or retire here.

Just read the answer from Mommaca...she makes some good points, but there are some errors in her info. ´Persons who are not citizens or esidents of Mexico ARE allowed to own property here. I know many who do. It is NOT true that any place outside of the tourist areas is not safe.

You would find the immigration rules for Canada are just as strict...as they are for all European nations too. ALL countries want to protect their job market for their own citizens. There are MANY retired Americans living in many parts of Mexico safely and happily. The key is to be retired, so you have a steady income and do not need to work.

OK here we go i lived in monterrey mexico for one year and a half i loved it. I am only 17 but i worked and paid my own bills. I know tht a lot of people think that mexico is so awesome but yet at the same time it is a poor country and does have a lot of things different. You would just have to get used to it. Where I lived there was a lot of street gangs that fought every night and a lot of stray dogs wit dieases, a lot of women selling their bodies and a lot of drugs. But you will find a lot of nice people there too. I would so live there if i could. Umm i would stay in nuevo leon monterrey. Over in col. nuevo san rafeal in fome. 7 that is where i stayed and downtown is soo pretty. The mountians are just awesome. Umm also a lot of things are cheap there i had made only 80 dollars a week in mexico 6am till 2pm monday-sunday and i was off on tuesday. I know it doesnt seem like a lot but i paid my bills and still bought cloths and all that good stuff. I lived well there once i knew the language i was set! SO if u have anymore questions just e mail me at volleyballsmine@yahoo.com

I'm not trying to make you change your mind but you don't know what you are talking about. If only planning living there based in your experience as tourist you are making a big mistake, I have lived in Both Mexico and USA, Mexico is not so bad but will be hard to adjust, unless you are really rich, and can buy an expensive place at CanCun, and have friends or family there, but even in that case you'll be in danger of kidnapping because of being rich.

My sister lived in Mexico for ten years...Their economy is horrid. I went to visit many times! She did not live in any vacation areas, she lived in the middle "Central" Mexico in a small town...Any place outside of the "Tourist areas" is extremely dangerous!

The living wage (if you can call it that) is extremely low, but the cost of living is about the same as it is here.

Think about it....Why else would 1/2 a million Mexicans cross the border to the U.S. every year?

Also...Mexico has very strict policies on non citizens living there. You need to contact them to get the paper work rolling now to see if you'd even be allowed to live there in the time frame that you'd like. Non Residents are not allowed to own property there....especially not without being permitted to reside there, You never earn any rights to vote in their elections, since you are not a national, and your freedoms aren't a guarantee.

My Sister lived there as a Doctor...That was the only way she managed to be there for so long. (Doctor's without Borders)

Mexico actually enforces and deports Illegal citizens at a rate much Higher then the U.S does.

My advice to you....Look somewhere else.

Perhaps Canada......or somewhere over seas...Like Greece.

This is a masterminded idea, and will be perfect. We can move in on the drug trade and create our own cartel, with the use of the uncles candy factory hire a bunch of your Ex-wife's old stripper friends to work there and move the *product* thru the candy factory boxes of fake chocolate. We too can carry guns, and be just like the policia there.

I think Mexico its a beautiful place to live... Nice kind and warm people.

    I love Zacatecas and Monterrey.

Zacatecas its a small town but really nice and secure.

Monterrey is bigger lots of things to do and beautiful mountains.

For all the people that answered this question before and talk **** about Mexico...

Where have you been ??? Border towns?? Or just have seen Mexico in the movies??

    Tired of the states?...wow.

but mexico is great. you hear all this negative talk about how dangerous and corrupt mexico is...well, yes thats true. but so is the states...look at the stats there are plenty of innocent people being killed in the US by gangsters, thugs, drunk drivers,

also, corruption in the US is just as rampant, but not talked about or as open as in mexico. you pay, depending on how much you make, between $3,000 to $20,000 in taxes a year in the US and they buy ashtrays at $1000 a piece...

at least in mexico your local federal cop only takes $5 to $20 when he stops you.

its wierd how people are blind to that....they gladly pay thousands to the IRS that they know will be misspent so they know they are really getting ripped off, but oh no...dont take $5 from me you federal cop thats major.....both cases are bad, but at least its cheaper to get ripped off in mexico.

try it, and if its not for you come back to the states.

the truth is tourist areas are expensive but if your not a citizen you need to look at the taxes, visa and know the areas. cancun is nice, but corruption is all over and renting takes visas and most landlords won't accept without them and you may get ripped of if people know your rich and american. worse for me cause i am a mexican citizen with an american persona. but it is possible to live there but just rent for 3 months to be sure.
