You are only 3 years younger than him. I don't have a problem dating a 17 year old. In fact, there are some 17 year old girls in my nieghborhood that often like to sexaully tease me by play fighting with me and grabbing me below the belt. If a girl is 17, I can work with that, but 16 and under is a no no. According to Illinois State Law, the age of consent of a minor to have a sexaul relationship with a minor is 17. Just be careful around him.

At this age (teens and early 20's) it does matter a little bit, but where you're at is only a 3 year difference which isnt bad at all. I've seen much bigger ones. If he's with you for the right reasons then it's totally acceptable to be with a guy that old. Besides 17 means either junior or senior and if you're a senior you're right at the edge of graduating and after high school, it really doesnt matter what the age difference is, so long as you're happy.

Yes! Age does matter. When you are young. (sorry you are still young) The difference between 16 and 20 are huge at that stage in your life. In a few years the difference wont matter but now it's a big deal. I would say that you better watch yourself. (dated a 20 year old when I was 16) now I have a baby and he is nowhere to be found) be-careful

At your ages now yes it matters only because your still Jail bate but in 10 or more or even just 5 more Years it won't matter. I hope your not having Intercourse with this man.
He could face charges that will result in alot of Regret. I had a Friend that was in this same situation and got Jail time for child Molestation charges.
Only after he left the girl she was mad about it told her Parents. So in there Retaliation they filed Charges and he did 3 Yrs in Prison for somthen that the Parents never had a problem until after he left her.

Honestly, I don't think it matters - it matters that the two of you are happy together, and have fun together. I would say once he turns 21 - there may be a problem - he may want to go out drinking with buddies, and you couldn't come, but for now - just have fun!!!!! Just be careful, because some people may be upset because he's legal, and you're a minor.
But just be careful!
In the eye's of the Law - AGE MATTERS!

Though you are under 18 and its a different situation, I am 23 and dating a 33 year old. Age does not matter as long as you are comfortable with the situation and are not being forced to have sex/intercourse with him. He needs to be sure to respect everything about you. There is nothing wrong with the age difference, you are old enough to make your own decisions and to know the difference between right and wrong. Older men always know more!

No way, it's only 3 years. Your parents may not be happy at first but they'll come round. Honestly i wouldn't see this as a big deal at all as long as he is mature and isn't just taking you for a ride. I went out with a 20 year old when i was 15 and he was a nightmare but they're not all like that!
Good luck!

At 16, yes age matters because you are not mature. If you were 24 and 28, or 33 and 37, etc, it would not be such a big deal because you have maturity on your side as well as life experience But 16 and 20, he has the maturity/experience and you dont. Stick with someone closer to your age who is at the same level of maturity/experience.

The age difference between you two isn't noticeable. At any rate age doesn't matter except when a minor is involved. This means your a minor, so your relationship should remain platonic. If not he could face Statutory rape charges in many places.

3 years is not a big deal, but at your age it could be illegal. It all depends on what the laws are in your state. Your bf could be in serious trouble if the age of consent in your state is 17 or 18.
Check out this page I found. It shows the age of consent by state.
