What Would Happen if the IRS were Abolished?

Hypothetically speaking, how do you think that would work?

Brooklyn prodigy- Roads, schools, and many of the things you have stated come from state taxes as well as gas taxes. Sorry to rain on your parade there.

In response to you question, personally I'd would celebrate, throw a party, skip down the street yelling "The thugs are finally gone!"

Ave-If they can be created they can be distroyed.

Oh yeah I think would be best through a sales tax in my opinion. I've been kinda interested in the Fair Tax, but there are some things I don't agree with. I like the answerer who has no pic or name response, but lately the way things have been going on I doubt there will be any govt organization that works within the constitution.

i find it funny how people say the IRS cant be abolished one it isnt legal or constitutional anyways. Two we dont need the money it gives the government we were fine a LONG time before the IRS came about money comes from other places for the government to spend.

Even if they did a tax reform, I don't see how the IRS can be totally abolished. Some organization would still have to keep up with taxes, whatever way we are paying them. Even if it is the most simplest way possible, they still need to keep up with people and whether or not they are paying, if they need to defer payments, or if they had even filed taxes. There is no way to totally get rid of the IRS unless we totally got rid of taxes, I don't see that happening any time soon.

We'd be able to keep and save more of our rightfully-earned money. We would no longer be supporting the infrastructure of one bloated bureaucracy, of which there are many in the federal government. Taxes could still be levied by a national sales tax, or consumption tax. The more you spend, the more taxes you pay in. But that's just the federal government. The states would then have to have taxes levied in their own way to fund highway building and repair, education, etc. The key is to eliminate the wasteful spending of our government.

With no office for regulating TAX collection, people would stop paying by any means possible.

Without taxes to support our Government it would shut-down for lack of money. All programs Government supports with TAX dollars would shut-down contributions. Military would go broke with lack funds to support the troop.

The best is the President would need to come up with a better idea on invading other countries (Iraq) without money to support it.

That would be great, local taxes pay for our schools, police etc and gas tax pay for highways. The $$ income tax generates does not do us any good. Put it in our retirement fund or health-care maybe but not up for grabs by greedy ones.

IRS can not be Abolished. Because it is not Al-Quaida , Saddam, Iran or Osama-bin-Laden.

Who knows the long history of IRA?

Since when they are fighting the British forces?

Has any one or the UK declared the IRA, Red Army of Japan, Bharatia Janata Party, RSS a terrorist organization? the answer is no, why you know because none of them are Muslim based.

Abolishing IRA is not the solution but it will give rise to may problem, now you are facing one IRA then there will hundreds of IRA.

You must solve the problem not the of shoot.

Hah, it wouldnt! How else would your roads be paved nicely, and schools be built, and old people get taken care of.

They would be the last to go. here's a quick history lesson:

Writing was created to keep records. Keeping records was created to keep Tax-collecting in order. Taxes were collected for gready kings and to supposedly "improve life" in a city-state. The IRS was created with the sole purpose of maintaing and enforcing Revenue laws.

We would replace it with a compitant and constitutional agency...the IRS is basically an exempt corporation.
