If national health care is the answer, then why are Brits pulling their own teeth?
In recent news it has been reported that Brits are pulling their own teeth because there are not enough dentists.
There are also reports on high death tolls from infections contracted while in the hospital because of unsanitary conditions. This is a result of lack of funding which causes a staffing shortage.
How is this better than what we have here in the USA?

I heard that under Hillerycare we will all get a pack with a knife, some plastic tubing, stitches and bandages so we will be able to do our own open heart surgery.

it is obvious that you haven't been listening to what some people are saying, or the new's, didn't you know we have people here who are trying to pull their own teeth and several deaths because of infection from decayed teeth because they could not afford the exorbient dentist fee's, it is shameless that Doctors, Dentist, Hospitals charge such ridiculous amounts for what they do, sure they go to medical school for 4 years and it is expensive and takes a lot of time, but, but after they get out of medical school they are paid a fair wage until their internship is complete and there are lots of trades etc that require additioal education but it sure seems to be unfair for them to charge such ridiculous amounts that many people just can't afford, and insurance is out of the question for so many because they have a choice , they either eat or pay insurance premiums, now which do you think they will do??? I went to the hospital for eye surgery "catarack" I was in the operating room 24 min, the charge was over $12'000 my deductable and other cost was over $600, I had the other eye same operation in Manila philipines for $450 complete including the Doctors fee no insurance pay,in America the Doctor charged $2,200 which I had to pay another $480. plus priscriptions etc, I don't mind saying America is all about money nothing else, and it is simpley greed, as even after these Doctors spend 4 years in med, school they can retire super wealthy by age 50, so don't give me this B,S, about them spending 4 years in med, school, they damned sure get well paid for their time,
you also mentioned high death rates from infections in hospitals because of unsanitary conditions, the A,M,A, just reported this year that something like 7000 deaths were attributable o unsanitary conditions yearly in our hospitals,
how is this better than other country's with govmedical???

Just to clarify, there are plenty of dentists, but many are choosing not to carry out work for the state national heath service (NHS). So some peope who can't or won't pay private fees to dentists cannot get dental care (despite having paid their taxes for it).
Hospitals are a bit different, as in practice there is a state monopoly - most treatments aren't available privately even if you wanted to pay for it.
Also, hospitals have 'crown immunity' to prosecution - there is little sanction against them if they do screw up.
Finally, to admit that a hospital has killed patients reflects badly on everyone in the chain of command from the hospital board right up to the government and the prime ministers claims that we 'never had it so good'. Accordingly such news is generally burried as effectively as possible, with large payouts (from public funds) to all those responsible so as not to kick up a fuss.
Health tax is bad two ways -- for many it is too high, they don't want to pay for other peoples boob jobs; for others it is too low, they would actually like to pay more and have clean hospitals.
Americans have the choice of who they pay their health insurance premiums too and the level of service they get; in the UK we have no choice over who we pay, how much we pay, or the level of service we get - the government do it.
In the end someone has to pay and provide the services - the only question is how the money is most efficiently collected, and how fairly and effectively services are delivered.
Maybe the state wins on efficient collection and private wins on effective delivery.

You idiot. I live in England so shut your stupid mouth. It is a lie. I have used NHS dentists and I have always had adequate dental care. I have never had to pull my own teeth and never will. Choose your sources wisely and don't listen to everything the media tells you. The thing with you Americans is you will grasp onto any little piece of bullsh*t you can get your hands on to stop change. You don't have a clue about NHS so don't talk about it as if you use it. It is wonderful system for those who need it. The only problem is that there has been a mass influx of foreigners into the country in the last few years and it is stretching the NHS to breaking point but the government won't tell you the truth. Hundreds of thousands of more people coming into the country and not nearly enough doctors and dentists to go around. That is the problem. The government is the problem not the NHS. The government makes bad decisions and the rest of us have to pay for it.

EWWWE! That's not better, but health care here is way too expensive for alot of people. There needs to be more help and if we leave it up to the pharmaceutical companies, hospitals/docotors then there won't be much help. So yes we need the government to provide a different plan.
