Fleas, is there anything good they do?
I mean they are so nasty, and I don't know anything good about them. I am sure if they were to be wiped out forever, we would know what benefit they had to life, but than it would be too late.
Does anyone know anything these bugs contribute beneficially?

The Flea,
A noble creature to be sure, and can be found on even the queen's doggy on occasion. They are the fitness gurus of the animal kingdom. If not for their biting and bloodsucking, our dogs and cats might lay around and grow fat and forget how to walk, or bite. The noble flea sees to it that our pets get leg exercise by scratching, and muscle mass in their jaws from biting, and smooth shiny coats from rolling around on their backs. So you see, the flea plays a vital role in the lives of our over pampered pets.

Fleas are part of the check and balance of nature. They are vectors to help introduce disease into populations, and thereby help control the populations.
They help control populations, even if they do not introduce disease. When animal populations (like rats) become too large and too overcrowded the flea population expands. The fleas suck the blood of their host animal.
Sucking the blood of course weakens the animal. Fewer of them will be able to survive and breed, and many will start to die. This curbs the growth of the population of both fleas and their host naturally, as the host population goes into a decline.
So the "good" they do in the long run is actually a good thing, even if it is rather ugly. Lions prey on animals and keep populations in check...so do fleas.

Lots of species will eat fleas, from woodpecker to orang-outang, but are impractical. You really need an insecticide to kill the fleas off before the dogs can get at them. Check if the insecticide is safe for dogs, or quarantine your dogs in the house until the insecticide has worn off. Keep the dogs from harm!

They are really good at making more fleas.

Nope...that's why they are called parasites. They have evolved to live off of a host's blood and do nothing else...well, except transfer blood born pathogens from one host to another. They are a food source (more of a snack) for primates that groom each other.
