    1. Don't force yourself to write.

    2. Use the time off writing to read all you have written up to now and correct.

    3. If you don't wish to loose the routine, write about something totally different, write a poem if you normally write prose or vice verse.

    4. Connect to nature, make long walks in the woods or anywhere else you can enjoy nature.

    5. Connect to friends and family, look for interesting input, chit chat with friends about everyday stuff.

Hope this helps and good luck

I was wondering that about a month ago. I went out and bought this book called The Writer's Block. It's a book in the shape of a block. Each shape has something that's supposed to help you get over writer's block: a prompt, a picture, a word, a story. However, they're not really good for novel-writing, just for short stories. I think the best way is to improvize...When writing The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton started out just writing about a kid who was beaten up. Where'd she get that from? One of her friends was jumped, and she was angry. Experience helps you write, too. A lot of famous authors have based their books upon something or someone. What Happened to Lani Garver was based on Carol Plum-Ucci's own "angel", whom she mentioned in her author's note and refused to disclose the identity of. Some just like to walk around, watch people, create stories from them. Feel free to get more modern-watch a strangers MySpace (I'm not suggesting you stalk them, lol!) and look at their comments, their profiles, whatever gives you an idea about who they are. It's best if your writing isn't modeled after anyone else's style, but in order to get out of writer's block, you may in fact have to do that. If you're still in school, like me, we're lucky-we're SURROUNDED by diverse personalities, and we see these people every day. Friends, enemies, role models, teachers-they're all great inspirations. Sometimes, I'll write something from the point of view of someone I hate-it jumpstarts your creativity. Another way to spark your mind is just to change your scenery. Find a place to write, or just get outside. Not necessarily nature, just a place away from where you usually are.

What works for me is just to do a sort of meditation. I like to just sit, relax and clear my mind. I fancy going to a secluded part of forest away from the hassles of civilization and mankind. Of course, that is just my "happy place" if you will. Any sort of intense relaxation (??) should work just fine.

    Best of luck to you!!

Listening to strong and passionate music and watching or reading something that inspires you. That is what I do, anyway.
