In the military do they really call enemy soldiers Tango s??

If they do call an emeny a Tango what is the meanting behind that?? I know Tango means T but what does it mean when the enemy is called that?? Is it just for our guys to somewhat mentally forget that they are fighting/killing another human being, or is it just an unexplained thing sort of like calling the NVC Charlies back in Vietnam??

Tango phonetic for the letter T the T in this is used for target

As in I have three tangos (Targets) in sight.

Tango has been around for a long time and doesnt refer to terrorist.

I know they use the word Tango, but not sure why. Watch Rambo.

  • I've never heard it used before in the military. I thought it was just the kind you lingo you only see in Tom Clancy's goofy war novels.

Tango would be slang for terrorist, just like in Vietnam "Charlie" was slang for Communist. Every war we have had a different name we call the enemy.
