I've use my "Gerber" multi- tool since i was a private in panama (U.S. Army 22 years ago). It is a fantastic tool. If i need pliers, wire cutters, a screwdriver, or a file to take a sharp edge off of something, a serrated knife blade for cutting rope or cardboard, all in one. its small , light weight , and is always there " If " you need it .

It's more conveneant than toting around several tools or a tool bag, and it fits into a small sheath that fits on your belt.

    Hope this helps.

One tool does a lot of functions.

The downside is that they are usually large and bulky and don't fit in tight places.
