Ask a vague question...?

Don't you hate when someone asks a vague question and then they get upset when they get vague and general answers?

Someone asked a vague question and because I was unsure of what they were asking in the first place, I was hesitant to answer, but I knew enough about the general subject to provide a vague answer...Well, their response was rude and condescending, but there was no way for me to be more detailed because their question was so vague...Has this happened to any of you?

Update:

Good one, Dharmanator!

Yes, I don't like that either. I pass up a lot of questions for being too vague, but if I happen to know something about the subject, I will usually answer and say something like "I really need a little more info, but if you mean X, then I would say X". But there is no need for people to be rude if you politely explained that more info is required.

All the time. Most of the time I get the impression these people don't even know what it is they are asking.

Frequently I will post a wikipedia disambiguation page and ask them to point out which one of the 10-50 possibilities they are referring to.
