Anyone use MotorKote in their engine? Does it work as advertised?

I've never personally used the MotorKote product but have evaluated several others that claim to "improve gas mileage" and "increase horsepower", etc.

As a long time mechanic I can assure you there is no magic lubricant that's going to make your engine run like new. The inherent nature of wear in an engine is just that...inherent, it's a constant. This is not to say that all these products are junk, some of them do provide additional protection.

For those with valves tapping, compression loss, etc adding a bottle of whatever product isn't going to repair the problem. For those with vehicles that are sound and run well an additive may aid in cutting down friction. You may notice a slight (I do mean slight) increase in gas mileage, the added protection may also help to increase the life of your engine.

Good maintenance practice indicates the best form of protection starts on day 1 of the vehicles life. I personally drain the factory oil out of any new car I buy, replace it with Castrol Syntec, and replace the filter with WIX brand. The vehicle I drive to work everyday has 340k+ miles on it...a 2004 Suburban, all original drivetrain. I've never once dropped in an additive.

If you're interested in an additive shop around, there's a good chance you'll find the same lubricants in a much cheaper form!

    Hope this helps!
