Actors aren't really having sex in their love scenes are they?
Cuz sometimes it gets really convincing ( Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thorton in "Monsters Ball", or Angelina Joliee and Antonio Banderas in "Original Sin", or Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in "Desperado") but i'd think it'd be illegal to have footage of actors actually having sex without calling it a porno. So how do they do it?-no pun intended tehehehe

Sex scenes have been in theatre before motion pictures were invented; on television, they are rather common in daytime dramas, for instance. As an example, the Universal/MCA feature film Endless Love caused a stir at the MPAA offices, while in the ratings process, for a (well-simulated) sex scene; apparently the costume procedures used for that film have since been improved for Monster's Ball, Original Sin, Desperado, &c.
Unfortunately, costuming for sex scenes, needed to present the illusion of mating without actually mating, is something of a black art in the film industry, so I am unable to present further details.

They typically don't perform what's called "unsimulated sexual activity" for the camera, they have simulated sex (where no actual coitus occurs), acting as if it were real -- so realistic looking it convinced U and probably 1000s of other viewers!
Hey, they are actors, getting paid massive paychecks per film to act -- go figure!
The actors have to make it look believable that they are actually doing "it," to sell the illusion, but U R right, they won't perform a sex scene on camera without receiving an NC-17 rating -- which would doom maximizing the film's revenues.
Although rumors fly about whether the sex in the film was real or not (such as with "9 1/2 Weeks"), wikipedia has a list of worldwide movies released with "unsimulated sexual activity" on camera, but note many scenes didn't make it to the theatrical release (due to the NC-17 rating factor again). However some directors have promised, or actually have included some of the cut scenes as added extra footage to help stimulate DVD sales.

No they don't actually have sex they just act it out REALLY well. Actually a lot of actors have trouble with it at first and feel awkward but once they get comfortable they're usually ok.

NO they don't really have sex. But I did watch a show with
Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin when they were talking about the movie sea of love that they had just done together...Al Pacino said he did have to ask to cut filming and leave for a few minutes befor he could go on, because he was truely getting exited. Hot hot hot...if you havent seen the movie it is a good erotic thriller. and Al and Ellen are hot together!

It's done with camera angles. You have never seen the physical act performed. If they did the rating would have an X in front of it and for adults only.
Some refer to it as dry humping where you see the sheets move up and down but there is no sexual contact. Sure the woman is topless and they film her from the waist up. Have you ever noticed there always seems to be somthing covering them from the bottom down?

Well, firstly, it IS legal to show footage of people having sex without calling it pornography, as long as it isn't or a vulgar nature (actually showing penetration, etc.). But no, they don't. They're ACTORS. GOOD actors.

Haha!! If they are having real sex then it's a porno, otherwise they're just pretending! Also unless it's a porno, they are not allowed to show an erect penis. I think they often wear skin coloured thong type things to stop them from getting too carried away!

I am not sure. I really doubt it though. I watched this movie called Shadowboxer and Stephen Dorff was showed having sex with a lady (from the back) and when he pulled out he actually had a condom on and it looked wet. So to me in my opinion it looked like it was for real.
