Selling computer and want to delete operating system?
I don't have the disk or any disk for that matter. I am trying to sell my laptop but don't want to get burned as I see people do. If I can't delete the system without the disk how do I clean it out as best as I can?

Using the Windows install disk to reformat does not ensure all the data is removed. In order to destroy all data you need to overwrite all the information (preferably several times) on the hard drive.
Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN)
Use DBAN (free) to overwrite all data on the hard drive. It offers several options for overwriting the disk . DOD 5220-22.M (7-passes) is preferred. Will run 6 hr- 7 hr for a 120 GB drive.

DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.

there are strategies of doing it and concepts no longer to... now and again in case you delete somethings, it may render it unbootable etc. So becareful at the same time as deleting issues. It relies upon what computing gadget that is etc, yet there are trouble-free strategies of doing it - i.e. On Dell desktopif you click alt+F4 at the same time as booting up - you may reset it to production unit so as that it become like the day you in basic terms offered it. some pcs can and would't do it. Definetly examine up google for it dependant on producer.
