    the squares of the two shorter sides of a right triangle add up to the square of the hyporenuse. It always works. Combined with the unit circle you can use it to find angles. trigonametry is based on it. It is probably one of the most used formulas in geometric math

    the pythagorean theorem says that in any right triangle,

    a²+b²=c²

    a and b are the legs of the triangle, and c is the hypotenuse, the longest side, and the one located directly across from the right angle. Basically it is very helpful because if you know any two lengths, you can find the third easily. For example, if you are told that the two legs are 3 and 4, you can easily use this formula to determine the length of the hypotenuse, like this:

    3²+4²=c²

    9+16=c²

    25=c²

    5=c

    of course it usually doesnt come out perfect like this but its always accurate =]

    hope i helped

    in a right triangle the square of the hypotanuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs

    in other words a^2 + b^2 = c^2 when c is the hypotanuse and a&b are legs of the right triangle

    a squared + b squared = c squared. it doesnt help all geometry and all equations. only right triangles. however other triangles can sometimes be turned into right triangles and use multiple steps with the theorum to solve it. that would take too long to explain on here...
