Which is a better way of keeping eggs, fresh eggs in the fridge, or hard boiled eggs in the fridge?
I ask because up to now, I've been buying eggs that have been prepared by others and eating them on the same day. Due to changed circumstances, I have to now consider buying eggs and cooking them myself as needed.
What I want to know is...
If I buy fresh eggs today how long will they keep for? (And no, eggs are not stamped with a best before date in this country)
Alternatively, hard boiled eggs... how long will they keep for?
I personally would not eat eggs three days after purchase, preferring to toss them for hygienic purposes.
I'd like to know what you folks have to say on this issue?
thanks.

Fresh eggs will keep better.
Even if you buy them today you can't really tell how long they have been hanging around at any stage between the chicken and your basket.
Pre date stamping, rapid distribution and refridgeration etc our grannies had the following trick.
Several inches of (cold) water in a container... if it floats or rises to the surface its old, if sinks/stays down its fresh. If they bob about somewhere inbetween they will still be fine.
You need several inches so you can tell a distinct float rather than a tip... an off egg will have enough gas to allow it to sit at the surface.

Fresh eggs last longer than hard boiled, if stored properly in the refrigerator. We can store the fresh ones a couple weeks but the hard boiled ones no more than a week. The site below says we can keep fresh eggs 4 to 5 weeks, but I think that's too long.
I get my eggs from a friend that raises chickens, so I know how fresh they are when I buy them. The "fresh" eggs from the store may not be as fresh, however.

Don't keep eggs in the fridge, no need, hard boiled I would eat same day. I have chickens so have a constant supply of organic eggs, I keep them on an egg tray in rows and eat the older ones first, if you know what I mean, cluck!

Eggs are fit for eating for much longer than three days. In the past fresh eggs could be sold up to 6 weeks after laying, and had merely been kept cool, not frozen, in the meantime. So don't be neurotic about fresh eggs - keep them in the refridgerator and aim to eat them within a month. They will do you no harm, as I said, for a much longer time than that. In any case, there is no mistaking an egg that is not fit to eat - they smell.

Eggs shouldnt be put in the fridge as the shell has tiny pours in it and there for will pick up all the different smells in the fridge like it they were near onions then they would have a slight onion taste. The thing to remember if in the shop they are sold in the fridge then that is how they should be stored.

The eggs I buy at the supermarket have taken a couple of weeks to get on the shelf and then they still have a "good life" of another 4 to 6 weeks. You can tell if an egg is getting a little old. Place it in a container of water and it will tip vertically if old, rather than resting horizontally if very fresh.

Well in the uk the egg box tells u the 'use by date'. Eggs are good for a couple of weeks, and dont actually have to be refidgerated. Hard boiled egges will keep for a couple of days, but tend to turn black around the yolk

Do not keep eggs in the fridge.
Hard boiled egg should be eaten straight away.
Fresh eggs stay fresh for up to one week.

fresh eggs will keep for a long time in the fridge but boiled eggs will only keep for about a week.
