Where will you recycle your Compact Fluorescent Bulbs?

When was the last time you actually went there?

Do they charge a fee for disposing of the bulb? (Costs $1.50 per bulb here.)

How far is it from your home?

Have you skipped the trip and dumped a CFL in the trash instead?

We have free (tax-paid) pick-up of yard waste and compostable materials, all recycling with the exception of hazardous materials.

Our City Councillors each hold Environment days locally so that we can bring tires, old computer stuff, hazardous waste once a year. At those, we can buy rain barrels, water-saving kits, composters, sign up for downspout diversion programs, and more. We take our hazardous waste and dispose free (and inconveniently) weekly at a transfer station. Household reno materials go there too.

My biggest problem with the compact fluorescents is that they don't last as long as they say (I have been using them since they were first marketed) and I accidentally break them, releasing their contents in my face and home.

The City is Toronto. (The shame of sending the rest of our garbage to Michigan is ours).

The voice of reason unfortuanatly isnt the voice of wisdom.

These directives are brought in for the benefit of all our family folk. There waste stations all around if you look and they will dispose of this hazardous waste at a small cost.

Unfortunatly there are many voices of reasons that think that asbestos is not a problem and still let there kids suck on there toy soldiers which are made of lead & mercury :o(

Just pay the small costs its for your own benifit in the long term

    Yours Peter

In Folsom, CA you can make an on-line appointment and the City will pick them up from your property. Go to www.folsomhazmat.com to make an appointment. Otherwise use www.earth911.org to find your local household hazardous waste program and recycle them there. If you have no local government disposal options then insist that your retailers that sell them; take them back too.

In Duluth MN we take them to the hazardous waste center, costs nothing. They ARE hazardous waste andshould not be put in the trash. Other electronics are also brought to the hazardous waste site, although the are not all taken for free.
