Are you able to adjust an outside motion-detector light (on the front porch) so that it will stay on?
My house has a motion-detector light on the front porch, which is driving me crazy. Firstly, because I want it to stay on all the time at various times -- like when I am expecting somebody and want to have a light on for them; secondly, because it comes on at odd times of the night when nothing is there -- wind, maybe?!? And, thirdly, sometimes I cannot get it to come on when I exit my front door to walk next door to my ailing neighbor (have to wave my hand all over the place, and even hit it a couple of times to get it to come on).
Is there -- or shouldn't there be -- a way to adjust this light to stay on all the time when I turn it on? Or, at least stay on longer periods of time?
(I DID at least find out WHERE the motion-detector part of it is located -- It's a little area at the bottom front of the light socket.)
Anybody have these types of porch light? Can you adjust them? How?

we bought a regent and the motion detector works ok, but it says you turn it off for 5 seconds and then back on and it will go to dusk to dawn mode but not always the case...i wont buy a regent again...no book with yours?

There should be a "little window" like a clear plastic piece on the face of the motion sensor. Cover that window with a piece of Electical or Duct tape. That should keep the light from comming on.
You can also take the unit apart and cut the wires leading to that motion sensor.
Your best bet is to remove the fixture and replace it with a outside fixture. Go to Loew's or Home Depot, They have all kinds of outside fixtures for as low as $15.00.
It shouldn't take more than 30 min. to replace your motion sensor light fixture.
As to a switch, I'll bet your present outside motion light operates off a light switch now.

on most of these type of lights there is a little slider switch, as you move it, it will change the lenght of time the light will stay on, like 1 min, 5 min, 10 min
also aim the light differently will help to as you change the time.
as for coming on odd times---cats, birds flying by and yes wind and leaves etc.
also you can have some one wire the light up to a switch for you, like light switch with on/off position
you leave in the on position for it to come on at once and then continue to work as motion light. off position no work.
yet you can always do this light you know someone coming over and you hear them coming up walkway, motion light is in on position but hasn't come on yet, just flip switch on/off then on again and light is now on for your company.
