What do they do on a follow-up pap?
i just had a pap last week monday and they want me to come in again this tuesday for a follow-up. do they do more tests or just want to talk about something they noticed? i am super nervous because when she first did the pap she said everything looked good. i am jumping to crazy conclusions! i suspect i might be pregnant (if i was i would be about 3 weeks) could they be calling me in to tell me that i am? (i did do a urine sample). having to wait to know what it could be is torture!

All your doctor might want to do is talk to you about your results, but most of the time, doctors don't usually call you to tell you good news. Don't freak out! What might have happened was they might have noticed some abnormal cells on your pap and might want to take another one to make sure it was just a fluke. From there, if it is still abnormal, they might want to do a biopsy - which sounds bad, but it's not that bad. Seriously, you can't freak out about it because you will just make yourself sick. You might want to call the office to see if they can divulge any info to you as to why you need to come in. Also, not sure if they would get the results back from the labs this quickly. Might be absolutely nothing, but good luck anyways!

I had this happen to me. I'll tell you the whole story. I went to the school nurse (in college, last year) for a pap smear. A few days later I had a message on my phone telling me to come in because they wanted to discuss my test results. Along with the pap I had STD tests and a pregnancy test. I was pretty worried. I got there and they told me that I had an abnormal pap smear and that I should follow up with my regular gynecologist. I did. He gave me a pap smear. A couple of days he told me that that test was abnormal as well, and he called me in again. This time he looked at my cervix with a microscope and saw some visible cellular abnormalities. He did a biopsy on the spot (no pain at all, I had no idea he did it) and the biopsy showed no cancer. I have gone for pap smears three times since then. The first time it was abnormal. The last two times (each time three months apart) have been normal. Once I have had three normal pap smears in a row I can reduce my visits to once a year again. Good luck, and try not to worry too much. The worst case scenario is not that bad. Cervical cancer is very easy to treat early on.

If you were pregnant, they would've told you there and then. If they specifically said its a "Follow-up pap," then they will re-do the pap smear. This means that your pap results from the first one came back as "abnormal." This could be many things and you shouldn't jump to any conclusions. Why don't you call the doctor's office and ask?

lol sorry but yeah that was my first time at the gyno...
they prouplary didn't get a right size or amount of it to test it... or something else... they find... humm be postive! if she said everything looked good. then don't worry about it. she is the doctor and went to med-school for like12 years or so.
(4 years- college)
