Soccer vs. (American) Football: Better sport?
I want to know other peoples opinions.
I love soccer.
It is my life.
I just don't see how people love (fake)Football.
You can't follow it.
It is a bunch of overweight guys who can run doing 20 second plays.
Who would watch that compared to an intense game of soccer with plays going on for 90 minutes straight?

I agree that both sports are very difficult when played at the highest level. Each in their own specific way.
On one hand you have football. This does include extremely heavy men but that is not all of football players. RB and WR need to be extremely athletic to be a talented player.
Then their is soccer. I am only in high school but I do play soccer. Yes it is 90 minutes and high speed running the entire time, but it is different. You do need to be very athletic to play soccer because of the running. And that's not all soccer is, to be good you need to be able to pass, dribble, and shoot efficiently.
Overall, I would say soccer players would have trouble playing football and football players would have trouble playing soccer. I also believe soccer can get boring for people who don't follow it as much as others, as does football for soccer fans. I follow soccer and find it very interesting, but I do not find football to be boring. They both have their own respective ways to interest me.

Consider this -- there are 5 ways to score one or more points in American Football, but only way to score 1 point in soccer (if you consider penalty kicks equivalent to an actual scrimmage play). There's a lot of action in soccer that results in nothing -- the ball gets moved from one of the field to the other -- whereas in AF even if points aren't scored, the position on the field where one team relinquishes the ball to the other can be important to the outcome of the game. AF is a lot more complicated sport and I learn something new every time I watch it. As someone pointed out, AF is like violent chess.

American Football (especially college) is a better spectator sport - it's the closest thing to watching Roman gladiators this side of the UFC. The plays - offense and defense - are VERY complicated if you choose to follow it at that level, but even a basic understanding is enough to enjoy watching.
Soccer is a much, much better sport to play, especially recreationally. Can play it until you are much older, less likely to get injured, better cardiovascular health, etc. Soccer has a better flow, as the question seems to imply, but in my opinion only set plays such as corner kicks match American Football's excitement for most spectators.
I coach and have kids in "select" soccer (U-9 and U-10) and hope they NEVER play American Football. Too many 40 year olds limping still from playing even at the high school level. But nothing like watching the Ohio State Buckeyes on a Saturday! Go Bucks!

Nothing against soccer but it's incredibly boring. Watching the ball go back and forth...back and forth...back and forth...for 90 minutes with 3 shots towards the goal can put an insomniac to sleep. I'll take football all the way. I'm not going to make fun of you for liking soccer the way some people will. I just don't like it myself.

If you don't know the rules to American football, of course you can't follow it and of course you'd think it's just overweight people falling on each other. Every play in football is exciting IF you know what's going on. That's why the only people that like football are hardcore fans that know play by play what's happening. It actually takes skill to make big plays, and when something big does happen, it's a whole lot more interesting than soccer
Soccer is easy to watch and easy to understand, so it's widely accepted by everyone. It's also been around longer than football so there are more international fans. Yes they play for 90 minutes with only halftime as an interruption, but some people don't have that kind of attention span. They might prefer football and its 20-second plays.
I play soccer, and I'm also an avid American football fan. Overall, I'd say soccer is the better sport to play and to watch, but football is definitely NOT boring. There's good reason why it's so popular here in the US.

Why pay more for 12 minutes of actual play when you get 90 minutes of incredible footwork and stamina for less.
Ticket prices (avg. per league basis):
NFL:$46-$266
Football:$27-$73
What I'm saying is that I would like to get my money's worth and paying up to $266 for ONLY 12 MINUTES?! What the heck?
