Does the Wii live up to its promise?
I thought the Wii would be a great gaming system for my kids. I've never allowed them to have a play station or nintendo or any of those, thinking they are social and fitness killers.
The Wii looks fun, and looks like it helps kids play actively while indoors.
Read a review of the Wii in slate magazine recently, and they bashed it big time, saying the games are either too easy or too hard and no one really works up a sweat playing it.
What is YOUR experience with the Wii? Would you recommend it? What games do you like best on it?
Thanks for your time and thoughtful replies.

I think the Wii is fantastic. So many of our friends with kids (and without) have purchaced one after playing ours! Some of the games can be very interactive. The game that comes with the Wii (Wii Sports) can help you to work up a sweat. There are many new games coming out including educational games for children as well as Wii Fit which is a fitness program that tracks your progress and helps you do excercise in your living room. The Wii will no doubt bring the family together. Everyone will love playing it!

I have had a Wii since December 27, 2006. It is extremely fun. I have a bunch of great games of all different types. It is also very useful for other purposes. You can go online and surf the web, check the weather and news, and download some of the best games ever made. My favorite feature is the Wii message board. You can use it to send messages to other people you know who have a Wii, or to someones e-mail or phone. I communicate with my friends a lot this way.
Wii is the best system out there. it has the best games for all ages, not just kids. Everyone i know who has a Wii agrees with everything i have said.
However, while i am a huge Wii fan, the whole fitness aspect is a little over hyped. While with some games such as Wii Sports you do get exercise, in most games the motion sensing features are used just for pointing at the screen or flicking your wrists, not getting up and moving around.
I think no one has the right to bash the Wii for not getting exercise while playing, because no other system even tries. Also a lot of reviewers are against the Wii because all they care about is graphics, graphics, and more graphics. Also many only care about the "intense" games and how realistic the blood is when you shoot something. While the Wii does not have the graphics of the other systems, any true gamer can tell you that the best games are not the ones that look the best but the one you have the most fun playing, and the games that fit into that category are mostly for Nintendo systems and currently that is the Wii.

I'm sore from playing my wii for a few days. It's really what you want to put into it. You can sit on the couch & play boxing, but you can also stand up & swing as hard as you can. It's great fun. Don't listen to the "reviewers" just go to a game store & try their demo & make up your own mind. Most video game reviewers seem to be biased against the wii b/c they think the things should be designed to reward you for pushing the correct sequence of buttons in a given amount of time, or at least faster than the next person. The wii doesn't buy into that & they just don't get it. I would recommend it to anyone.

I love the wii. You can play games with a different experience than any other gaming system. It is awesome! You can play gamecube games on it, download classic nintendo, super nintendo, sega, or other games that are just really fun. You can check the weather, current news, make personalized miis (like avatars, only cuter). Personally the best game I own for it is Legend of Zelda: twilight princess, My Sims is also fun, if you have younger (but not too younger kids), If you want more fitness friendly games, Wii Sports (it comes with the wii), or Dance Dance Revolution (yes, there is a ddr for the wii) are good games. The wii is definitaly an experience, and for me, it is worth it.

I own a Wii and we have so much fun! The game system comes with a Wii fitness game that has tennis, bowling, golf, baseball, and boxing. When my family and I play we always work up a sweat. We have fun spending time together and getting excersise. And we have several other games that include, Wii Play, Transformers, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, and Mario Party 8. I think their challenging but not too difficult!!
In my opinion, I think you should buy one, you'll see how much you like it and be glad you bought it. You'll have a heck of a time playing!!
Hope this helps!!

Well depending on the game the remote with nunchuk makes can make you get 'up and move'. Boxing in Wii sports is probably the one that so far made any of us break into a sweat. NBA Live 08 also gets you sort of moving (just because you are constantly making shots).
they also came out with the Wii Fit for workouts. See it here at the Nintendo site: http://e3nin.nintendo.com/wii_fit.html
By the way the Wall Stree Journal had an article about how the Wii makes the kids get up and move. You can see it here: http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB11644107627...

The wii is great(if you would rather stay home and work out infront of your tv)which is exactly me.
The wii comes with a disk that has games, and they are great work outs.If you prefer action/adventure,try super paper mario,or mortal kombat;and if you like regular,no-thrill games(sort of like me)get mysims.
All of these games are fun,if you dont want to spend a lot of money, you can just get the wii fitness games.
Just be careful not to over do it(my shoulder hurt for a week, lol)
have fun!

NBA stay constantly sucked ****. i might rather advise NBA 2k9. That pastime never enable us to down and became constantly great. The photos won't be suited even though it continues to be the main suitable of the three. once I performed NBA stay 08 in maximum suitable purchase, I nevertheless i became play 05 or 06 on account that pastime became nowhere close to as good as 2k. I certainly have constantly offered 2k video games quite than the different ones. -Mister J
