What is the correct term for referring to the straights, or what should we use?

They have all sorts of words for us, queers, homos, benders, most of which we have adopted and so they need to think of new ones, yeah, right, as if they acn think! Some people are now pointing out that using straight is offensive to us, because it implies we are 'bent' or 'crooked'.

What word should we use to be PC about them heteros over there, and what words could we use to be really nasty.

Update:

Some people are taking themselves very seriously here. I, personally have never liked 'breeder'.

Update 2:

hcchener- so wide of the mark, do you ever read profiles before you make comments

Update 3:

Drea R, who called who stupid, I just said they don't think, the most intellectual person in the world can open their mouth without engaging the brain!

My god everyone here is just oh so civilized ! Childish or not, its sometimes feels good to spit an epitaph or two back in our tormenter's faces. I personally use the ubiquitous "Breeders", or simply "Hets" when I get to feeling that way .Sadly, somehow though those words never seem as nasty as the ones they use on us.

I have a good 'insult' that would REALLY confuse us heteros ... we are a 'mixed' couple! You should be 'straight' since you are both of the 'same sex' and we are 'mixed' because we are male and female. Yes, I'm a 'breeder' (who is WELL PAST being able to breed, so that won't work), but I've worked with gays and lesbians my whole career, and had gay and lesbian friends my whole life. I don't like the 'insults' most people use for homosexuals of both gender, and I tend to use the word 'gay' because it used to mean 'happy' and 'carefree' ... but these days, most people think that 'gay' is a bad word and a 'gay' person should be 'talked out of it' or threatened with Hell and an eternity of torment.

Although I find your question very pertinent, I wish that we could all just step back and start calling each other what we are ... people. We could be 'people who love people' and 'a person who loves another person' with NO 'indication' of gender or sexuality, and wouldn't that be a wonderful new world we could all live in?

    Source(s): I'm a psychologist, I'm 57, and I'm married.

I personally think we as people (gay or straight) need to get rid of the 'them and us' mentality, we are meant to be bringing everyone together and breaking down barriers, not putting more up by thinking of offensive terms to describe peoples sexuality.

the terrific suited words selection via difficulty and individual better half is the politically terrific suited term. yet while they have had a dedication rite that's okay to call him husband. If not, it is likewise okay to head with boyfriend. it truly relies upon on what you're comfortable with. to stay professional i might attempt and follow his first call, yet once you may desire to introduce him or carry it up your self merely go seem at his hand, and if there's a hoop choose husband, if their isnt, better half is extra professional.

Calling them by their proper given names should be best.

This is because, from experience, if you treat them the way you want to be treated, they will eventually see that your being gay is not really material, at least not so much as how you act and think as a member of the human race.

I like the Way of the Warrior. Native American, Shambhala

Warrior. Calling people names is immature. And being offended by childish people that call us names, is just as immature.

    Just consider the source.

You are just as bad as the people who use these words. why have a name for anyone - we are all individuals whatever our race, sexuality, gender, class, etc etc

My g/f has quite a few lesbians at her work place. Laughingly being crude she refers to them as Dikes while they refer to us as "breeders"! Have a great day! ;-)=
