Non-LDS Christians, why do you think we believe things that we say we don't?
Why do you all continually say "Mormons believe (insert your favorite thing), this is wrong" and when we correct you, as we always do, you still continue to say we believe these things?
Like, why do you say things like "Mormons worship Joseph Smith over Jesus" or "Mormons believe the Book of Mormon OVER the Bible"? When we come back with "No, we don't believe ABC or XYZ" you all still insist that we do.
Is it because those who tell you what we supposedly believe also tell you that all Mormons lie about what they believe? Or do you think we're just stupid or something?
>Just take one of your commericials and say what you believe plainly and clearly. Won't that clear everything up for everyone?<
We could. But this is my point! we try to tell you in other ways, and you do NOT believe us! I believe we DO tell you what we believe in our commercials, and you don't believe it, right?
My point! We tell you and tell you, in every way, and you still don't believe us.
What's it going to take? We can't tell you what you want to hear, cause I am tinking wat you want to hear is not what we beleive. If we tell you that we believe something we don't, you can feel we are lying. But, if we tell the truth, you say we lie.
My Point!
Plural marriage is not a doctrine, it was a practice. Marriage DOCTRINE is eternal mariage, no matter how many wives you have. Plural marriage was a PRACTICE. And we didn't end it, God excused us from the practice.
NO ONE outside our church studies our church more than we do. If WE don't know what we believe, then NO one does.
If we Mormons worship "a different Jesus" than mainstream Christians, then perhaps it's YOU who should stop calling yourelves Christians.
Oh, wait! The believers in Christ in the Bible didn't call themselves Christians did they? So, if you call yourselves CHRISTIANS, then you are not being Biblical. If you want to be truly Biblical, you call yourselves Saints. As we do.

It does matter what you say, these ignorant and indifferent people are still only gonna hear what they want. my examples are most of the answers above mine. Please give me on person outside of my religion that knows it better than me. I would LOVE to see that. When the fact is, you have no idea what the bible teaches. You take a scripture here and there and base all your beliefs on it. Mormons are the only religion I know of where its members are challenged to seek out the truth for themselves.

A lie, no matter how often repeated does not become true.... although many will begin to believe it is. (Hitler actually used this technique in his anti-Semetic propaganda.)
No, we (women of the LDS church) don't feel we're opressed. (I actually recently asked a question about this.)
Yes, some LDS men were asked to live a polygamous lifestyle. (Only about 3% of the men... See references in the OT to King David- his downfall wasn't his many wives, it was his lust for Bathsheba, and his murderous intent against her husband.)
No, we don't believe in the trinity. (John 17- Either Jesus was seriously mentally ill, or He was actually talking to another Being, His Father. Since I don't think He suffered from dissociative personality disorder or pschizophrenia, I feel the only alternative is that He and the Father are 2 different Beings.)
Yes, we believe all the teachings the LDS church has ever taught (whether currently practiced or not) have Biblical support. Sure we understand the Biblical passages different from the Catholics, but the Catholics understand the scriptures different from the Lutherans, Methodists, JW, Baptists, Episcopals, etc.... If the Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Episcopals, JW, etc have the right to interpret and understand scripture as they see fit, don't the LDS??
What I find interesting is the sources used by non-LDS as their references regarding what we believe... the same "logic" could be applied to their documentation... They say our leadership has altered the writings. Whose to say the writings they use haven't been altered?
In the end, what I believe is what I believe. What others think makes no difference.

I think it would be a mistake to assume that they actually read your LDS answers. They see that you are pro-LDS and just dismiss what you say. What you say doesn't reach their brains. They know what they want to believe, and they aren't about to be confused with facts. Having itching ears they heap to themselves teachers who tell them what they want to hear - stay away from the Mormons.
In some instances it appears that they think you are lying to cover up what Mormons "truly believe.".
I think it is interesting in the Book of Mormon how Korihor could believe the lie that there was no God. The devil told him that there was no God. Now, logically, if the devil came to me as an angel I would think, well, if there is a devil or an angel then there must be a God. I think Korihor must have thought the same thing at first. But he allowed the pleasing (to the carnal mind) thought of proof that there is no God to take hold of him. The same thing happens whenever we dwell on something we want to believe, but know to be false. The same thing when we want to believe the Mormon church is false.
"But behold, the devil hath deceived me; for he appeared unto me in the form of an angel, and said unto me: Go and reclaim this people, for they have all gone astray after an unknown God. And he said unto me: There is no God; yea, and he taught me that which I should say. And I have taught his words; and I taught them because they were pleasing unto the carnal mind; and I taught them, even until I had much success, insomuch that I verily believed that they were true; and for this cause I withstood the truth, even until I have brought this great curse upon me." (Alma 30: 53)
I notice that the anti-Mormon writers here aren't answering your question. They are only attempting to attack the Church. I don't think they ever really read your question, accept as a starting point for where to attack.

"If we Mormons worship "a different Jesus" than mainstream Christians, then perhaps it's YOU who should stop calling yourelves Christians."
That's awesome and true, really.
I have often wondered this myself and even asked a question like this several months ago... it just makes no sense. It's like you can tell them, tell them and tell them and it's just going in one ear and out the other because they are already so "conditioned" to think mormons are evil or whatever. My dad who is some sort of "christian" I guess gets anti-mormon pamphlets at his church. I mean come on! IF that doesn't clearly show that satan is fighting against our church, then what does??? We know there is always going to be opposition because satan opposes what is right and true. Whether these people know it or not, they are just carrying out his work for him.
It's really sad.

Well, it all depends on the definition of "worship" being used. While it is true that LDS/Mormons don't worship Joseph Smith MORE than Jesus, I always felt pushed to treat Joseph Smith as someone to worship when I went to church, that was something that really bothered me. I think that a lot of people think that LDS/Mormons believe the Book of Mormon OVER the Bible because of the phrase "as long as it is translated correctly" (in regards to the Bible) and "the most correct book on Earth" (in regards to the Book of Mormon). I see that you are truly trying to understand the minds of those who criticize you, and although your attempt is genuine, it really isn't possible.

Liesel...worship is different than revered... we hold reverence for the prophets since they are "servants of man and God" this is probably why you you left the church....a misunderstanding of vocabulary...maybe even a lack of education... too bad.
Annie you go girl !!!
Annie I thought we believe in the concept of the trinity just not the catholic interpretation of one in three... but (Mormon belief of) three as one(one in purpose and 3 individuals.)
yes I enjoy the detractors..... they are quite ignorant as to what is belief..... what is culture... and what is personal held Mormon supositions. like all churches there are good people and representatives and bad people and bad representatives....Liesel would be a bad representative since she was never really "born again" enlightened as it were. she faltered on a very basic belief...almost the cornerstone of our religion....if the prophet was not a true prophet than all is for naught. Thats why there is such an attempt to besmirch his name. make the prophet look like a loon or convict than every thing else is tainted... we have always known this to be the case"... for his name shall be used as a hiss and byword" .... for us it is a triumphant herald ...a key name in the restitution of all that we now have.
As far as changing doctrine this is the best part about having a living prophet. we don't have to rely on age old doctrines like "let the women keep silent "in church.... we understand that that was a cultural thing of the new testament not an essential tenant of Christianity. we have daily guidance from servants of God. what a silly thing it is that some don't believe in revelation in todays times...God is the same as yesterday today as he was yesterday...his suggestions and guidence as a loving heavenly father does change as the times change...there was a time when drinking in moderation was the norm in the church but we now have revelation which promises us untold health benefits and safety if we abstain from alcohol.
thanks for the question

Christians are concerned by Mormons for the same reason that if another used car salesman moved into a town where there was previously only one. You are competitors to the Christian product and your product has proved to be easily sold, despite its completely absurd nature. And why are you concerned if the Christians make up things that they claim you believe in? The truth of what you guys do actually believe is hardly less astounding....

Honestly, I think they hear so much bad about you that they just want to beleive bad things? It's not just LDS groups it happens to everyone.

Ironically, most of these people also believe in the Bible that says:
"Thou shalt not bear false witness"
Somehow they believe that it's righteous to break one of the 10 commandments if it involves slandering Mormons.

The bible over the B of M, yes this is true, in their commercials they, correct me if I am wrong, they offer the B of M, not the bible, but I could be wrong, I haven't seen a commercial in my area for a while and mormons do not believe in creation science, they are too busy with proving the evidence of the B of M to be bothered with the evidence (creation science) of the bible.
I don't think you are stupid, I just use to be a mormon for 36 years.
