Notebook will not start up properly?

I have a Sony Vaio and I am having problems w/ start up. Computer will power up, but get a black, blank screen and the 3 lights by the "power" button remain lit.

    It means you OS is broken.

    If you cant get to your computer BIOS setup then it means that you have a hardware problem. did anything odd happened to your notebook recently? unplug your battery and check if it works again. you can check your RAM too. make sure that it is in place. if you are not familiar with notebook hardware dont touch it just go to Sony and give them the notebook for repair.

    try holding on to the power button for a cpl of seconds????
