I need information on Yorkshire Terriers? (Yorkies)?

have yorkies for about 19 yrs now i have 4 .you have made a good choice. yorkies like to be with there owner with a close bond they will have you well trained also very intelligent.they are addictive and you will love them very pretty little dogs if bred properly.if growing the coat long will need a lot of grooming or some owners keep the coat short and go to a dog groomer.

i feed my yorkies on the dry burns minni bit whole food and i give a little chicken veg wet in the morn ,at 5pm give them some burns minni bite and in the eve they get a small treat .you could get your yorkie insured for any emergencys vet bill.usually teeth cleaning,occasional visit to the vet. yorkie boys are not easy to house train (going by my own ones) i only get my yorkies vaccinated every 3 years something you will have to decide .

it is important to socialse a yorkie from day one.

the little dog with the big personality.can bark at other dogs.

buying a yorkie it is important you see the parents and buy from a reptualble breeder.

It will help your dog learn to behave around other dogs, and help keep your training moving forward as you'll want to be prepared for the next class. Also, a good instructor can be a wonderful resource, someone to help you with any questions or concerns about your dog. Leash training can take a LOT of time and patience, depending upon the dog. I'm not sure what you mean by 'horrible on a leash' but my basic suggestion is that you take a lot of yummy treats with you on walks. When your dog behaves well on the leash (not pulling) praise her and give her treats. Change direction a lot so that she learns to pay attention to YOU and where you are going. It's also helpful to teach a "Watch Me" command such that whenever your dog looks at you you praise her and give her a treat. About chewing, yes a Kong is a great chew toy. Some dogs also like Nylabone brand bones. I suggest also teaching a "Leave It" command. You use this when she shows interest in chewing on something she shouldn't. Then immediately give her something she is allowed to chew, such as the Kong stuffed with somethig yummy. This same command will be helpful on walks when she wants to sniff or eat something she shouldn't. Again, when she does leave the item alone, be sure to give lots of praise. I would look into an obedience class right away. I think that you'll find that a good obedience class can help enormously! Good luck and enjoy your new dog.

I believe they are good pets, can be yappy, generally have good temperaments, with big personalities for a toy dog. Vet bills, same as any other dog, and fees are different for each vet so you would have to check in your area. Annual boosters are around £30, and kennel cough is an extra £8 approx. Price per week to feed, at a guess less than GBP£5, dependant on what you feed it. The specialised toy breed tinned food can be quite expensive, but you could cook your own from fresh minced beef and vegetables very cheaply and it would cost you less.

You also need to consider pet insurance which would save on emergency vet bills which costs from £7 per month dependant on which company you use, and some have an excess fee of around £50.

Dont think you need worry about the hamster and rabbit, as long as you dont leave them alone together, some dogs have rabbits as their best friend, but I know mine would chase and kill one given the chance!

there is no such ingredient as a "teacup" something... Yorkies basically are available in one length. Yorkies are small canine at 7 pounds or much less. They do shed, yet they shed minimum quantities... they do might desire to be groomed on a daily basis tho to sidestep matting. "teacup" is basically a term used via irresponsible breeders to sell a runt for a intense value! Chihuahuas do no longer are available in "teacup" sizes the two.. Chihuahuas are 6 pounds or much less.. how can some thing be "smaller than regularly occurring" if there is no minimum length selection???

They are a cute breed but fragile. They are prone to tracheal issues and can go in to a hypoglycemic episode easily, especially when puppies. They can be very yappy, and also very loyal, very loving lap dogs.

If you expect their coat to be as beautiful as some of the pictures you have posted.... Think again. That will take daily grooming and probably a trip to a professional groomer bi-weekly if not more. They mat easily with their fine hair.

They really are too small to be in a home with young children. One mis-step could snap a bone quite easily.

Hi my yorkie past away a couple of months ago he was 16 yrs old i had him when he was 5wks and he was great .when i found him i cried my eyes out he was such character lovely dogs but i couldn't have another one

they are clever and they dont bark very often. my yorkie seldom bark and she will stand at the gates of my house waiting for me to come home as she is afraid of going near to the door. they are very small but pretty but they are also very picky breeds i changed 4 kinds of food before she get used to it
