Thank you notes after interviews: snail mail vs. e-mail?

Went to a nursing open house; spoke with asst manager (at length) and unit manager (briefly). The thank-you notes are the problem!

Snail mail: Always safe, but may be stuffy (i.e.., not giving out the "fast-action-do-it-NOW" image); may stick out better mentally

E-mail: Incredibly timely; allows them to save MY e-mail immediately for future communications (could be a plus).

The interviews were done on a walk-in basis (resume was NOT pre-submitted).

Also, would it be a good idea (or overkill?) to drop a note of some sort to the recruiter? The hospital is really pushing the idea of "customer service", and keeping people/staff happy by finding out what they need and providing it

Type an extremely professional friendly positive email. Be direct and say you are writing to recap on the interview and tell them how excited you are about the prospect of the position, list the benefits it would have to you and what you can bring them (keep it brief though because you should have wowed them at the interview...this is just the icing on the cake) Put all your details under your name. Read it at least 3 times before you send it to make sure you have the right tone and pitching to suit the style your going for. If they are heavily 'customer service' oriented then they will be impressed at how articulate and prompt you are. Try to say something that requires a response so you can get confirmation that they have you marked out from the rest of the mass. Good luck, job interviews can be petrifying but if you put the human aspect on it, it makes it a bit more easier.

Now, you're talking of etiquette. Sending snail mails would be much much much more formal than sending thank-you notes via e-mail. Of course you still have to apply respect to the asst. manager and the unit manager, no matter how young they are and no matter how young you are. Another thing of sending it by snail mail is that these people are new to you. It would be disrespectful if you would send them thank-you letters via e-mail, since in the view of the asst. manager and the unit manager, it's like treating them like normal easy-to-communicate people.

But this is simply my opinion.

If they told you snail mail and email thank you notes are a problem, your next option is to handwrite the thank you note. Tried and true, nothing says it better than a handwritten thank you!

I think a hand-written note is a nice idea - they will remember you for it.
