Home Network help?

I want to connect an xbox to xbox live but at present there is a only a modem installed, connected to the PC via USB with no router.

I read a different question with a similar problem and one of the answers stated, if I read it correctly that it is possible to conect the xbox directly to the PC go into network settings select the USB connection and the xbox connection and "bridge them" thus removing the need for a router. Can any one confirm wheather this is possible or not?

Update:

has anyone else bridged connection or shared the connection and do you suffer from much lag? also I presume that if you do this and you want to play online with the xbox the PC must be switched on also in order for it to work?

You can bridge the connections. This is how my brother got access with his XBox.

Bridging is not a good option. Set internet connection sharing on the usb connection, this will automate the xbox connection. Nothing will be as fast as a router, however.

I also have a similar problem, I'll keep an eye on this and hopefully we can kill two birds with one stone.
