Mode of heat transfer?

I am trying to settle an argument. I would appreciate it if anyone with an advanced degree indicate this in their answer. Think of this as a poll question...please answer even if someone already has given your answer [especially if you are a teacher or someone with an advanced degree in science.]

Here is the question:

A hot coal jumps from a fire pit, landing on a metal rubber mat. Clearly heat was transferred from the fire pit to the mat in this scenario.

Which type of heat transfer method [conduction, convection, radiation] was the predominant method in this situation?

I think the answer is obvious...but I'd like some confirmation.

conduction is the method that started the conduction, its the predominant conduction at the initial and after the rubber melts convection plays important role radialtion also have a minor role here.

Every time I hear the words

    "The answer is obvious..."

I know that someone is guaranteed to be wrong.
