Why can't I get my DVD player to play in color?

My TV is old-school and needs a 3-wire converter from the DVD player to attach to the 1-line cable into the TV. The problem is at the DVD side where the 3 wires from the converter insert into the DVD player. Please help; I'm a technology idiot.

Thanks.

    1. What colors are the sockets on the DVD, and what color are they on the converter? They should be the same.

    2. Does the DVD have a resolution setting? It shoud be set to 480I.

    3. If you feed the cable to the converter from a VCR, does it work?

Hi, you said you have the component cables hooked up correctly but I think you may have the red audio going into the red video input. Check that first and if it is correct, then make sure your on the right input for the dvd player. PS you could also have the red and blue cables mixed up

It is likely your DVD player is outputing the wrong type of image to your converter, which leads to your tv. It is likely your color output is set to what they call "PAL" setting which is for European televisions only. If your connected to a US/Canada Tv, you will get a black and white type image. Look for a button on the remote that says "PAL". Press the button until the display on your TV says "NTSC"....Poof!!! COLOR!

Source(s): Also, Make sure the "Yellow" video Cable matches the yellow cable connector on the DVD player and the converter. If you connected the yellow to the green an the dvd for example, you would get an image, but not in color
