I/O device error?

ok heres how it goes

i have a gateway computer with a CD and a DVD drive well i put a CD in my CD drive and it worked fine. well i put the same CD in my DVD drive and got an message saying "D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be proformed becaulse of an I/O device error."

can someone tell me what this means and how to fix it. thanks

    Put the CD in the CD drive !! I had the same problem :(

    Either the drive is going bad, or more commonly the cable on the back of the drive has come unplugged or is loose. Take the side off of the computer and make sure that there are two cables plugged into the back of the drive. One is a 4 pin molex connector which supplies the power and the other is a 40 pin flat gray cable. You may or may not have an extra 4 pin audio cable depending on the age of the computer. It they are all plugged in and other DVDs work in the drive then it is a bad DVD. If nothing works in it anymore then you need to replace the drive. They are pretty inexpensive at Wal-Mart.
