My horse has an eye problem. !!?!!?

The vet says it looks like he bumped it really hard, we are putting medicine in every 8 hours. It will get better for a little while but then it gets bad again. It waters alot and has a blue tint. He can see out of it but he keeps it closed most of the time.

keep putting the medicine in it. medicine is probably a triple antibiotic that the vet gave you. He probably just scratched his eye. Do Not put the over the counter stuff in it as it will have a steroid and will ruin the eye. The cloudiness should go away or at least decrease in size as he gets better. Another thing that we have done and our vet recommends is to buy a eye wash, like contact eye wash, and rinse out his eye before you put the medicine in. Then place the medicine in. Do this every 8 hours.!

I had a horse in training once and when I brought him home, his eye was totally blue and cloudy from a scratch that hadn't been treated. I had my vet out and he gave me a very detailed plan of treatment. I put two different types of meds in his eye every three hours round the clock for a week. As it started getting better, I could cut back on the treatments but it was really scary because he was very close to losing his sight permanently.

It was touch and go for a while, but he did heal up and his eye had no blue spots or scarring. It just takes time. Keep treating it.

Have your vet look at it again. Eyes are something you don't want to take a chance with. If you feel like your vet isn't giving you good advice or you want a second opinion, look for a vet that specializes in ophthalmology - eye problems.

Call the vet out and have him recheck it or ask him if you should have seen improvement yet. It may be that he keeps rubbing it which irritates it again. If so you may have to cross tie him. This is what I suspect the problem is.

The light may be bothering it too. I hurt my eye once. An ice cicle broke off when I was little and trying to get one. It hit me in the eye. I had to wear dark sunglasses for a week or more because the sunlight would hurt like crazy.

How long have you been doctoring him?

If its getting worse, the horse could be allergic to it. I would call the vet in the morning and tell them these problems and see what they recommend.

Call the vet back again. If its getting worse either the meds arn't working or he is allergic!
