My computer speakers pick up a local radio station whenever they are turned on. How do I stop this?
If anyone can give me any advice that doesn't involve purchasing new speakers, I would greatly appreciate it. Seriously, out of all radio stations for my speakers to mysteriously pick up, why does it have to be the '80's hair metal station? It's not really loud, but it is loud enough for me to clearly hear whatever Whitesnake or Poison or Scorpions song is playing. I have tried re-positioning my speakers already. That didn't help. Also, I am not playing the radio through my computer. In fact, the computer can be off and my speakers will still pick up this terrible radio station if I turn them on. Can you help me make the radio station quit playing through my computer speakers?
Thanks everyone for your answers. It sounds like I am going to have to buy new speakers. I can't choose a best answer for this one because pretty much everyone said the same thing.

Your speakers are friggin possessed.
Thats creepy.
Go to Bestbuy or Frys or wherever you bought them and tell them. They'd be better help than any answer on this site.

you know whats terrible thses new "emo" or cry baby bands thats whats terrible, dont talk smack about classic rock. anyway I am sorry to say that the frequency must be very strong in your area, it pretty much is the speakers cheap ones tend to not filter these things out or static for that matter if you tell me your speakers model and brand I can help you further. pay no attention to these other people as they seem not to now what they are talking i am experienced in audio and video processing as well as a computer wizard. anyways most likely your speakers are not of the best quality, your house absorbs these frequencies so maybe if you reposition your computer to another side of the room and if the speakers are powered by an outlet maybe try another as sometimes only some outlets actually produce these frequencies, it can also be the humidity of the room if your house has alot of static or maybe cause its cold it can all be temporary since these things can raise the frequency awareness. and finally you can buy a noise filter that plugs in between your speakers and the source of the audion whci in this case is your dexktop computer. how about radishack or an audio store?

Speakers work like antennas and can pick up radio signals. I had an old pair of speaker that did that too.
I know you hate it but there nothing you can do BUT to buy new speakers. Be sure to buy the ones that DO NOT need an electrical plug.
Some cheap comp speakers just plugs into the computer, some plug in the computer AND ALSO to an electrical outlet. which makes the speaker be "on" all the time, getting the signals.

Most likely your wires are picking up a signal. Try taking the wires running to the speaker and make a small coil with each. Wind the wire around three fingers in a circle seven or eight turns. Secure this little coil with string ir tape so the loops stay in place. Put the little coil at the speaker end not at the computer end. I hope this makes sense to you.

I'm picking up an elevator music type- bern chicka werr werr- type jazz in my speakers. I can hear the commercial breaks too when people talk. Kinda neat to me.

Since the frequencies are alike, there is no way to change the frequency of the speakers so there is no other choice but to spring for new speakers.

lol, thats awesome. ok, see if there's an antenna leading out from the speakers. also, if they are wireless, they may be set to the maximum sensitivity, which probably could explain it.
